About your role
As Senior Manager – Financial Control (Japan), you will support financial control, regulatory reporting and statutory processes for our Japan entities from Dalian.
This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical expertise in Japan regulatory requirements, financial reporting and control, with responsibility for delivering accurate, compliant and timely outputs across close and regulatory processes.
The role will take ownership of day-to-day financial control activities, working closely with onshore Japan Finance stakeholders and collaborating with offshore teams (i.e. in Dalian and India) to ensure effective delivery. The role also includes a focus on process efficiency and continuous improvement, supporting the evolution of the Japan finance operating model.
Operating within a matrix structure, the role will act as a key interface between offshore delivery teams and Japan stakeholders, ensuring high-quality outputs and strong coordination across the broader Finance organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control & Regulatory Reporting
- Support financial close, year-end and regulatory reporting processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for the Japan entities
- Prepare and review statutory reporting under JGAAP and ensure alignment with IFRS/US GAAP
- Support external audit and regulatory interactions
- Act as a key point of contact for financial control activities, coordinating between Dalian teams and Japan stakeholders
Capital & Liquidity Management
- Support monitoring of regulatory capital and liquidity requirements
- Ensure accurate reporting of capital positions in line with regulatory expectations
- Provide analysis and insight to support senior management reporting
Operating Model & Transformation
- Drive efficiency, automation and process improvement across financial control activities
- Leverage automation and digital tools to reduce manual processes and enhance control
- Support standardisation of processes between onshore and offshore teams
Technical Oversight & Controls
- Provide guidance on accounting and financial control matters relating to Japan entities
- Ensure strong internal controls across areas of responsibility
- Maintain audit readiness and support resolution of control issues
Tax
- Maintain a working understanding of the Japan tax regime as it relates to financial reporting
- Partner with Tax teams and centres of excellence to ensure alignment between tax outputs and financials
- Support tax-related queries and provide input into tax matters impacting financial reporting
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with Japan stakeholders, including Japan Financial Controller and broader Finance teams
- Collaborate with offshore teams (including Dalian and India) to deliver financial control activities
- Operate within a matrix structure, balancing regional and local priorities
- Act as a key interface between Dalian and Japan, ensuring effective communication and coordination
- Communicate complex matters clearly in English and Japanese
About you
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong financial control experience with exposure to Japan entities or similar regulated environments
- Knowledge of FSA requirements, including regulatory reporting obligations
- Experience supporting regulatory reporting and statutory processes
- Technical expertise in JGAAP, with working knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP
- Working knowledge of the Japan tax regime, with experience working with Tax teams or advisors
- Experience working in a matrix structure, including offshore delivery models
- Experience driving process improvements and automation initiatives
- Hands-on, proactive and able to operate independently
- Strong stakeholder management skills, particularly in cross-border environments
- Fluent English and Japanese (essential)
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- High attention to detail and strong analytical capability

- Professional accounting qualification (CPA or equivalent) required
