The Research Office (RO) delivers central administrative services across a broad spectrum of research support, including grants and funding schemes, research ethics, integrity and policy, research committees, research culture and infrastructure, and institution-level partnerships and collaborations.

We are seeking an experienced, strategic Senior Manager to lead the External Grants portfolio and professional team, reporting to the Head of Administration with oversight from the Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the University’s external research-funding portfolio, and establish annual priorities, service standards and performance measures;
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of external grants, including opportunity scanning, call preparation, eligibility and compliance checks, institutional selection and nomination, application coordination, submission, award acceptance, agreement execution, post-award changes, reporting and project closure;
  • Lead and develop staff responsible for core RGC schemes, Mainland grants, fellowship and talent schemes, and other sponsor portfolios, and coordinate resources across funding peaks;
  • Interpret sponsor requirements, resolve complex cases, maintain effective procedures and controls, and manage senior relationships with funding bodies, faculties, partner institutions and professional offices;
  • Use portfolio data, funding intelligence and post-result analysis to strengthen application quality, institutional competitiveness and management decision-making; and
  • Carry out ad hoc tasks and strategic projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • A good bachelor’s degree or above, preferably with a postgraduate qualification;
  • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in research administration or grant management in the higher education sector, with substantial supervisory or managerial experience;
  • Thorough knowledge of the research-funding landscape in Hong Kong, including RGC and ITC schemes; familiarity with Mainland research-funding programmes would be a strong advantage;
  • Proven leadership, project-management, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines;
  • Excellent stakeholder-management and communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with senior academics;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese, including Putonghua; and
  • Strong digital literacy and the ability to use research-information systems, data analytics and AI tools effectively and responsibly.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of three years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
