Job Description
Advise and lead on a wide range of legal matters relating to Wise’s day to day and strategic initiatives, both UK/Europe-focussed and globally.
Mentor and upskill the Legal Team (based in London, New York, Austin, Tallinn, Singapore, Brussels and São Paulo) to continue delivering on initiatives that will impact the business.
Work closely and build relationships with multiple business teams across Wise including Product, Compliance, Wise Platform, Banking and Expansion, Operations and various Boards and committees.
Become a trusted advisor on issues such as financial and consumer regulations, sanctions, AML and anti-bribery issues, banking arrangements, new products, partnerships, employment issues etc.
Structure, draft, and negotiate complex commercial agreements with bank partners, API users and enterprise customers.
Identify, assess, manage and report risks to the business and provide practical advice solutions to reduce or mitigate risk.
Based out of our London office, a hybrid business model that requires this individual to be in the office 3 days per week on average.
Report to Head of Legal, UK & Europe.
Qualifications
UK-qualified lawyer with at least 7 years PQE.
Law firm or in-house experience, focusing on payments, technology, card processing, financial services or banking.
Ability to evaluate and summarise legal advice and communicate advice in a succinct and pragmatic way to different areas of the business.
Proven aptitude for commercial contract structuring, drafting, and negotiation;
Strong interest and experience in financial services regulation including payments, consumer protection, banking or investments.
Clear communication, project coordination, and management skills.
Ability to navigate difficult issues and multiple stakeholders, advising the business on key risks, and developing solutions.
Have a get-it-done, collaborative approach to problem solving.

Employees engage in a combination of remote and on-site work.
We expect new joiners in the office most days to build connections and learn from colleagues for their first six months. After that, most Wisers split their working week between the office and home, typically coming in at least 12 times a month.
