What is this role about?

As our Senior Lawyer for Estonia, you will be a trusted legal partner, helping the business grow responsibly while ensuring compliance with responsible lending, consumer protection, and other applicable legal requirements.
Working closely with the Country Manager and cross-functional teams, including Product, Credit Risk, Compliance, Operations, and Customer Experience, you'll provide pragmatic, risk-based legal advice that enables business growth, supports customer-centric solutions, and helps navigate an evolving regulatory landscape.

This is a high-impact role where you'll take ownership of legal matters for the Estonian market, influence key business decisions, and help shape legal processes that support a fast-moving and increasingly regulated fintech environment.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Act as a trusted business partner, providing pragmatic, risk-based legal advice that enables sustainable business growth while ensuring compliance with responsible lending, consumer protection, and other applicable legal requirements.
  • Take ownership of legal support for the Estonian market by drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and maintaining customer documentation, commercial agreements, internal policies, procedures, and other legal documentation.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments, assess their business impact, and lead the implementation of required changes across products, processes, and documentation.
  • Partner closely with the Country Manager and cross-functional stakeholders to support commercial initiatives, translate legal requirements into practical business solutions, and help deliver compliant, customer-centric outcomes.
  • Manage complex customer complaints, regulatory inquiries, and legal escalations, balancing customer outcomes, regulatory expectations, and the company's commercial interests.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes, governance, and ways of working, while supporting other legal matters and strategic initiatives as required.
What would ensure success in this role?
  • Master's degree in Law (LL.M.) from an Estonian university and qualification to practice law in Estonia.
  • At least 5 years of post-qualification legal experience gained in an in-house legal team or a reputable law firm.
  • Solid knowledge of Estonian consumer credit, financial services, and related regulatory frameworks, with practical experience advising on compliance matters.
  • Experience supporting regulated financial services businesses; international or cross-border experience is considered an advantage.
  • Excellent written and spoken Estonian and English.
  • Business-oriented mindset with the ability to balance legal risk and commercial objectives while delivering pragmatic, solution-focused advice.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and influence decision-making.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with a high level of ownership, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
What can you expect at Bondora?
  • Contribute to Bondora’s ambitious goal of reaching 1BN in revenue. Your skills and efforts will directly impact our growth trajectory and shape the future of our company.
  • Our employees deserve the best. We recognize our people with a competitive salary and a generous benefits package (5 weeks of vacation, private healthcare compensation, hobby grant, mental healthcare support, share options and much more!)
