Role Description: Senior Lab Engineer


Role Purpose:


We are looking for a highly skilled Data Center Engineer to ensure our servers and network perform optimally. In this role, your duties will include installing and upgrading system components, as well as providing network support. You will also be required to perform maintenance and repairs on servers and network equipment. To ensure success as a Data Center Technician, you should have extensive experience in optimizing data center infrastructure. Top-notch Data Center Technicians take proactive measures to prevent data loss and network damage. 


The Lab Engineer will possess knowledge of data centers and be responsible for the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the data center's electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety systems. This technician maintain sand follows processes that maximize customer uptime in the most cost-effective way, ensuring that data center problems are quickly identified and repaired, contractors deliver quality services, and internal customer demands are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee non-production data center operations, including the installation and maintenance of hardware servers, storage systems, and cabling (CAT6 and fiber optic). 
  • Maintain accurate documentation of data center inventory, managing the full hardware lifecycle from deployment to end-of-life. 
  • Test, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software failures and error conditions in pre-production environments, working with minimal documentation. 
  • Ensure proper network configurations, perform troubleshooting, and maintain equipment to support system expansion and connectivity. 
  • Coordinate with development, operations teams, vendors, and other technical teams to install and manage hardware and support pre-production environments. 
  • Manage the full lifecycle for lab hardware assets from initial bring-up through end of life and communicate with other data center technical operations teams. 

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in rack and stack tasks, including server installation, cabling, and configuring network equipment. 
  • Hands-on experience with Linux, Proxmox VM, Kubernetes, storage enclosures, fiber optics, and networking best practices. 
  • 2+ years of experience with Bash, Python, or Go for scripting and automation tasks. 
  • Proven ability to maintain accurate documentation and effectively manage inventory systems. 
  • Strong collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams and a willingness to travel to Wasabi data centers in Massachusetts.
