This role is responsible for driving the scientific exploration, development, and realisation of novel products, processes, and technologies. This role leverages deep scientific expertise and innovative thinking to translate strategic business objectives and consumer insights into commercially viable solutions. By leading advanced R&D initiatives, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and applying rigorous scientific methodologies, this position plays a critical role in expanding our innovation pipeline and delivering future growth opportunities. This position will provide R&D technical leadership to the business and will provide mentorship and training to junior members of the team.
How you will contribute
Lead Innovation & Concept Development: As the senior innovation scientist, this role is expected to:
  • Initiate, design and lead R&D concept ideation through proof of concept with a focus on novel ingredients.
  • Translate consumer insights, market trends and business strategies into scientific approaches and product solutions.
  • Proactively identify and explore emerging scientific advances/technologies relevant to strategic growth.

Technical Leadership- The role develops strong relationships within function and cross functionally. Acts as a technological resource or as an expert in own technical /scientific area. Leads RCA's and issue resolution. Role models positive and proactive approach to change within the business.
Training, coaching and mentorship- As a senior member of R&D, this role will be expected to help build R&D capability through training, coaching and mentoring others. This will involve both development of technical expertise and compliance/HSE/regulatory standards and practices.
Delivery - As a senior member of an efficient development team you will be expected to:
  • Work in an organised and autonomous manner within tight deadlines to ensure key deliverables are met.
  • Maintain momentum and progress on multiple pieces of work at any one time
  • Understand, manage and escalate risk where relevant
  • Ensure you work towards clear and contracted deliverables and outputs, role modelling the highest levels of focus towards these results, whilst maintaining a degree of flexibility when these contracted outputs and goals change-ensuring you are able to pivot to changes in business requirements

Risk Management- As a senior member of the team, you will be expected to:
  • Role model best practice in strategic risk taking
  • Effectively analyse, communicate and advise the business on risk
  • Make clear recommendations which take risk into consideration but allow for decisive business action and progress

Communication- Excel in communications to a wide variety of stakeholders within and outside of R&D, ensuring:
  • verbal and written communication provides the clarity and levels of detail required for the situation and audience.
  • you use your abilities and experience to communicate with clarity and understand if the right message has been received,
  • coach others in delivering a message with the right amount of detail and ensuring the key and important points have been clearly conveyed.

Continuous development and knowledge- Ensure you are up to date with the Key nutritional and licenced medicine landscape themes. Ensure you highlight and discuss development needs and opportunities with your line manager, to keep your knowledge current and capabilties fit for future needs.
Ensures that all activities are performed in accordance with company Health, Safety and Quality Policies and Procedures.
Knows the ethical and legal compliance responsibilities of the position; raises questions and concerns when faced with an ethical or compliance issue; applies integrity in all aspects of professional conduct.
What you will bring
  • Advanced degree & relevant experience - Masters in relevant scientific discipline with at least few years of progressive innovation experience within a relevant industry.
  • Product Development experience and expertise: experience of delivering product developments from concept to marketplace, to meet the requirements of the whole supply chain.
  • Proven innovation leadership - leading and successfully delivering innovation projects from ideation to commercial readiness.
  • Technical skills and knowledge, continuous learning and improvement mindset including application of statistical analysis to datasets
  • Project Management Process Knowledge
  • Process development experience and expertise: experience of introducing new or improved process including equipment trials and scale up challenges (preferred)
  • Good working knowledge of food and pharmaceutical regulatory environments
