An overview of this role

As a Senior Indirect Tax Compliance Analyst, you will help ensure we meet our indirect tax obligations across the US, Canada, and selected non-US jurisdictions in a fast-moving SaaS environment. Reporting to the Multinational Tax Manager, you will own core indirect tax compliance work end to end, support cross-functional partners on tax questions tied to new transactions and product changes, and improve how the work gets done through stronger automation, controls, and system design. This is a role with broad scope and clear ownership: in your first year, you will strengthen filing and reconciliation processes, maintain accurate tax determination frameworks, and help evolve key workflows in tools like Avalara, NetSuite, and Zuora, including AI-enabled improvements to the US sales and use tax process.

What you’ll do
  • Own end-to-end global indirect tax compliance (US SUT, Canadian GST/HST and EMEA/APAC VAT/GST), including nexus analysis, return preparation, filing, payment, and ongoing threshold monitoring, to maintain timely, accurate filings and reduce indirect tax compliance risk.
  • Assess software as a service (SaaS) taxability rules and maintain current taxability guidance for transactions across relevant jurisdictions, to improve tax determination accuracy as products and transactions evolve.
  • Oversee exemption certificate processes and tax engine configuration, including rate accuracy and transaction tax logic within Avalara, to improve transaction accuracy and reduce manual rework.
  • Perform monthly accruals and quarterly reconciliations for indirect tax accounts and maintain supporting documentation for control readiness, to support accurate reporting and stronger audit and SOX readiness.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Billing, Legal, and Accounting on indirect tax matters related to customer structures, product launches, and new business activities, to enable compliant go-to-market decisions and smoother launches.
  • Drive process improvements focused on automation, operational efficiency, and scalable controls, including AI-enabled enhancements to compliance workflows, to strengthen filing and reconciliation processes over time.
What you’ll bring
  • Experience managing indirect tax compliance with direct ownership of US, Canada, and international (EMEA and APAC) indirect tax processes, including nexus analysis, return filing, exemption certificate management, and voluntary disclosure agreement support.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a lean team while handling multiple compliance cycles, deadlines, and parallel projects.
  • Working knowledge of finance and tax systems such as Avalara, NetSuite, Zuora, spreadsheets, and collaboration tools used in distributed teams.
  • Skill in reconciliation, documentation, and control-oriented work, including support for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) processes.
  • Strength in organization, analysis, and clear communication with cross-functional stakeholders on technical tax matters.
  • Relevant education or transferable experience in tax, accounting, or finance; professional certifications or advanced tax education may be helpful but aren't required to be considered.

What We Do

GitLab is the Intelligent Orchestration Platform where software teams and their AI agents stay in flow to amplify their capacity for innovation. Together, they automate repetitive tasks to plan, build, secure, test, deploy and maintain software. With GitLab, software teams spend less time on coordination overhead and more time on the next big idea. What started in 2011 as an open source project to help one team of programmers collaborate is now the intelligent orchestration platform millions of people use to deliver software faster, more efficiently, while strengthening security and compliance. Since the beginning, we've been firm believers in remote work, open source, DevSecOps, and iteration. We get up and log on in the morning to work alongside the GitLab community to deliver new innovations every month that help teams and their AI agents ship great code faster.
