PURPOSE OF THE JOB
This position will work a hybrid schedule, but will be based out of our Jeannette, PA headquarters (about 45 minutes east of Pittsburgh). This individual will direct and manage all aspects of Ebara Elliott Energy’s Export Compliance Program at all global manufacturing and service parts export locations. Responsible for proactive promotion of legal and regulatory compliance and risk management for the entire Ebara Elliott Energy organization in conjunction with and reporting to the Global Compliance Director.
This is an expert level role in establishing and driving Ebara Elliott Energy’s export compliance program across the organization by providing guidance on conduct, compliance and risk while supporting strategic business goals.
BACKGROUND and EXPERIENCE

This role requires a JD degree and to be licensed in at least 1 state (in good standing)

10+ plus years’ experience in legal and compliance

5+ years in an export compliance leadership role in a law firm or corporate environment.

Overseas attorney admissions helpful (but not required).

Post Graduate qualifications in export compliance is desirable (but not required).

Expertise and extensive knowledge of US and international export laws, with an emphasis on the applicability of US, EU, UK and Japanese regulatory law. Demonstrated clear understanding of trade and export compliance regulations.

Experience in managing or influencing individuals and teams. Experience working in or advising corporate organizations in export compliance and legal roles both domestically and internationally.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated cross cultural awareness and exemplary writing and research skills. Proven ability to work in complex matrixed environments and to problem solve to arrive at effective outcomes in multiple projects.

Computer literate; experienced with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, together with Lotus Notes, and the ability to work with a variety of databases. Ability to effectively use export compliance screening databases. Basic accounting knowledge.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/COMPETENCIES
Design and manage primary and specific functions of the Ebara Elliott Energy Export Compliance Program with focus on trade and export control and sanctions. Monitor risk identification processes and develop mitigations. Evaluate effectiveness of internal control processes and develop measures to prevent export violations and identify improvements.

Management oversight for Global Trade Management software system (or other similar system(s)) designed for screening export transactions for compliance with trade control regulations. Responsible for reviewing and analyzing escalated highest risk transactions and making determinations and recommendations.

Advise executive management and other stakeholders on permissibility of complicated transactions and associated risks within sophisticated regulatory trade control schemes.

Design, implement and control non-automated export compliance screening processes and reviews, researches and advises on results and manages risk.

Provide guidance, advice and recommendations to all business units to identify applicable laws and mitigate risks.

Lead investigator, on potential export and sanctions compliance violations; analyzes and provides recommendations and mitigation plans

Draft, modify and/or implement company export compliance policies, documents and agreements for business units and functional processes.

Assist in the design, establishment and implementation of export compliance training programs for internal and external stakeholders.

At the direction of the Chief Risk Officer, collaborates with external counsel on high-risk export compliance issues; maximize cost effectiveness of external counsel advice.

Analyze and draft commercial contractual language to minimize risk and ensure compliance with relevant trade laws.
