Hilltop Holdings is looking for a Senior Financial Reporting Accountant! The Senior Financial Reporting Accountant is considered a seasoned (expert) in their field. The Senior Financial Reporting Accountant plays a key role in the preparation, analysis, and filing of the Company's external financial reports and financial institution regulatory filings. This position is responsible for helping ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial information reported in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations, Federal Reserve reporting requirements, and other applicable regulatory standards.
The Senior Financial Reporting Accountant serves as a technical resource for financial reporting matters, accounting research, and disclosure requirements. This role supports the implementation of new accounting and regulatory guidance, assists with quarterly and annual reporting processes, coordinates information gathering across business units, and drives process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and control environment of the reporting function.
Responsibilities- Prepare timely, complete, and accurate filings of daily, monthly, and quarterly Regulatory Reports required by Federal Reserve for Hilltop Holdings entities, such as FR Y-9C and Call Report. Perform edit/validation checks and analytical reviews as necessary to verify data inputs are complete and accurate.
- Prepare timely, complete, and accurate quarterly and annual financial SEC reporting for Form 10-Q/10-K and earnings release, including gathering footnote or support schedules from other teams, updating documents, drafting language, and completing disclosure checklists.
- Work closely with Technology and Finance Optimization teams to implement and standardize strategic regulatory reporting initiatives.
- Analyze and interpret data from different sources ranging from core systems databases and spreadsheets and make recommendations for technical solutions, gains in efficiencies and automation.
- May assist or lead the designs and performance of controls to ensure the quality of regulatory reports, assess impacts from issues, and designs new controls to improve efficiency and decrease operational risk.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to support audit readiness and risk mitigation.
- Prepares, reviews and/or assists in preparation of special purpose and/or regulatory reports.
- Monitor new pronouncements and developments in accounting and financial reporting guidance, assist in impact analysis and implementation planning, draft technical accounting memos, and support auditor review.
- Work cooperatively with various groups to perform pre-submission analyses of reports.
- Assist in responding to inquiries by Federal Reserve, auditors, and other regulatory agencies.
- Other functions as driven by the businesses' needs.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of two to five years of relevant experience in SEC reporting and/or Bank regulatory reporting, auditing, or a related accounting function.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and financial statement presentation and disclosure requirements.
- Understanding of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR), SOX compliance requirements, and disclosure controls and procedures.
- Public Accounting and/or financial services experience is a plus
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or CPA candidate is a plus
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to research and interpret accounting literature, regulatory guidance, and reporting requirements.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft suite of products, including Excel (e.g. VLOOKUP, pivot tables, etc.) and Word, as well as ability to learn and utilize custom systems and applications.
