Job Responsibilities:

Magna Steyr Aerospace is a business unit of Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH & Co KG and a trusted partner to the global aerospace industry. Our expertise spans the design, process development and manufacturing of fluid system components for the space launcher and aircraft industry. For our Aerospace Business Unit in Graz, Austria, we are seeking an experienced Space Systems Expert / Senior Systems Engineer with a strong systems engineering background and proven experience in spacecraft development. Experience in satellite or launcher propulsion systems and/or space mechanisms is highly desirable. This position combines technical leadership, customer interaction, and multidisciplinary system development activities.

Your Tasks

  • Define and maintain system architecture, technical baselines, requirements, and requirements traceability throughout the project lifecycle

  • Lead system trade studies, technical decision-making processes, and system performance assessments

  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams across mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, and related disciplines

  • Develop verification, validation, qualification, acceptance, and flight-readiness strategies, including participation in system-level testing campaigns

  • Prepare compliance documentation and ensure alignment with customer and program requirements

  • Serve as the primary technical interface to customers, suppliers, and partners, including supplier coordination

  • Identify technical risks, define mitigation plans, and lead technical reviews and status meetings (SRR, PDR, CDR, QR, FAR)

  • Support proposal preparation, business development activities, and internal reporting

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering excellence and continuous improvement

  • Demonstrate expertise in either propulsion systems (chemical, green, electric, or cryogenic) or space mechanisms (e.g. release mechanisms, pointing mechanisms, actuators, valves, or deployment systems), including environmental testing and application of relevant industry standards

Who we are looking for

  • Successfully completed Master's degree or equivalent, preferably in the fields of Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related field

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the aerospace or space industry

  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering processes and lifecycle management

  • Experience with: requirements engineering, system architecture development, verification & validation, risk management, technical reviews

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Fluent in English and German, both written and spoken

  • Experience with spacecraft, launcher, payload, or propulsion system development

  • Knowledge of ECSS standards

  • Experience with MBSE (Model-Based Systems Engineering)

  • Familiarity with tools such as DOORS, Enterprise Architect, STK; experience working with ESA, Airbus, OHB, ArianeGroup, Avio, or New Space organizations

Your profile matters! 

Depending on your qualifications, professional experience, and the responsibilities of the position, your actual salary will be determined individually. The minimum salary for a full-time position (38.5 hours per week) is €4.500 gross per month, paid 14 times per year.
