About this opportunity:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer- DWDM (L2/L3 access network), DWDM, Fiber & Microwave based networks to join our dynamic team here at Ericsson. As a critical component of our Managed Services deliveries, the role aligns with the Ericsson Operations Engine's mandate. The positions key responsibilities include offering technology leadership, domain expertise, and robust support throughout the entire cycle of Create, Sustain, and Evolve processes.
What you will do:
- Acts as the customer concern point for activities demanding a level of technical expertise as a 24/7 capability!
- Actively monitor ticket queues to ensure timely response to tickets!
- Out of business hours, Domain Support Specialist is triggered on the on-call phone by Automated Operations.
- Focused on improvement of automated recovery.
- Ensure that the services provided to customers are continuously available and performing to Service Level Agreement (SLA) performance levels.
- Performs analysis to proactively detect possible failures. This shall ensure incident restoration and repair because of its own analysis or when prompted by MS Automated Service Function processes.
- Act to meet the service or resource requirements, in the cases in which an overall and higher-level network knowledge is required or when knowledge on specific products or services is required.
- Remote troubleshooting on SDH, DWDM, OTN, Optical and L2 Service devices on Nokia devices.
- Detail understanding of Fixed Line Telephony with hands on experience on Nokia & Marconi fixed line telephone exchanges
- Collaborate closely with field technician for all field activities (hardware installation, fibre termination/swap, onsite troubleshooting, and fix action).
- Handling Configuration Support & fault analysis.
The skills you bring:
- Quick learner with a positive attitude; a strong team player with the ability to contribute independently and collaborate effectively.
- Solid understanding of SDH and DWDM technologies, including network architecture, topology, and transmission concepts.
- Hands-on experience in configuration and provisioning of SDH (STM-1/4/16/64) and DWDM systems (wavelength provisioning, cross-connections, optical parameters).
- Good knowledge of optical transport concepts such as:
Optical power levels and budgeting
OSNR, attenuation, dispersion
Protection schemes (MSP, SNCP, ring protection) - Experience in fault isolation and troubleshooting related to:
Fiber issues (cuts, degradation)
Hardware faults (cards, ports, transponders)
Performance degradation and service impact/outages - 3-7 years of experience in handling service outages and restoration within defined SLA timelines in transport networks.
- Comfortable in executing change requests as per defined MOPs, including circuit migrations, upgrades, and maintenance activities.
- Ability to analyze recurring faults and implement preventive actions for network stability.
- Familiarity with NMS/EMS tools for SDH/DWDM network monitoring, alarm handling, and performance management.
- Working knowledge of MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and analysis.
- Exposure to Microwave and ASON/OTN technologies is an added advantage.
- Relevant OEM certifications (e.g., Ciena, Nokia, Huawei) or transport network certifications are a plus.
- Working knowledge of below mentioned Microwave products and vendors -
SDH Devices: Alcatel, Ciena, ECI, Fujitsu, Marconi & Nokia
DWDM Devices: Alcatel, Cisco, Huawei, Infinera, Ribbon & Nokia
Skills Required
- 4-12 years of experience in troubleshooting of services outages
- Knowledge of routing protocols BGP, IS-IS, L2VPN & VRF
- Working experience of configuration network having BGP, MPLS, L2VPN
- Good knowledge of MS Office tools like Excel, word, Power Point
- Routing & switching professional certification and OEM certification
