The Role

The Hong Kong Corporate Actuarial acts as financial management hub, providing professional advices and services to senior management in the state-of-the-art actuarial areas across IFRS17 valuation reporting and analysis, Hong Kong RBC capital valuation and management, financial planning and forecasting, participating business and reinsurance management, as well as statutory financial reporting duties to the regulators.    

Reporting to the Hong Kong Chief Actuary, this role is heading a dedicated team in driving valuation initiatives, spanning over reporting bases in IFRS, HKRBC and embedded value. This role will also support chief actuary in actuarial projects. He or she will also become a member of the senior actuary leadership team.

Position Responsibilities:

The objectives of this Valuation Solution Architect (“VSA”) role are:

Support business initiatives amid the sophistication in modern actuarial valuation. Implement valuation solution in an analytics friendly, efficient and sustainable manner. As chief actuary’s delegate in certain cross-team actuarial projects.

As such, the major responsibilities of VSA cover the followings:

Valuation solution design and implementation

  • Design and implement valuation initiatives arising from accounting changes, reinsurance arrangement, and some other ongoing business initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance to the relevant standards such as IFRS, HKRBC and company internal policies, and facilitate the necessary valuation approvals.

  • Lead a dedicated team which is free from routine valuation production duties.

  • Work closely with valuation production teams and project manage other stakeholders in business units, regional office as well as group office as relevant.

Valuation enhancement

  • Champion initiatives to enhance valuation efficiency including methodology and process.

  • Lead selected valuation control tools development.

  • Promote consistency and efficiency across reporting bases.

Actuarial projects

  • Lead cross-team projects and manage resource pool on project base.

  • Support chief actuary and other senior management on financial and actuarial impact assessment.

Required Qualifications:

  • University Degree holder

  • Professional actuarial qualifications

  • At minimum 10 years’ experience in insurance relevant industry

  • Solid actuarial knowledge and experience in IFRS17, HKRBC, and embedded valuation

  • Strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills

  • Strong communication, presentation and influencing skills

  • Team leader who good at coaching and inspiring people

  • Able to manage to work flexibly under dynamic business environment

  • Effective command of English, both spoken and written

  • Experience in Hong Kong market and participating business is an asset, yet not a must

  • Experience in AXIS actuarial modeling and Python programming is an asset, yet not a must
