About the Role

We're modernizing our data organization — building a foundation that connects data across the company instead of leaving it siloed. As Senior Director of Data, you'll own our data strategy, analytics, data science, data governance, and AI enablement, and partner with leaders across the company to improve how data informs operational and strategic decisions.

This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll set a multi-year data strategy while staying close enough to the work to guide your team through a real platform and skills transition — modernizing legacy reporting infrastructure, building a data science function from the ground up, and creating the connectivity that makes data accessible across the organization rather than locked in silos.

What You'll Do

You're accountable for the full data function — strategy, platform, talent, and governance — operating at both the strategic and hands-on level:

  • Own the data strategy and roadmap. Set and communicate a multi-year plan — migration milestones, team growth, investment asks — and serve as the go-to voice on data strategy for senior leadership.
  • Modernize the platform and retire legacy systems. Own the transition off Crystal Reports and Oracle onto Databricks and Power BI, with a realistic timeline, and define the architecture, data modeling, and engineering standards the new platform runs on.
  • Build data connectivity across the company. Move us from siloed systems to a single platform where data flows in and is accessible to the teams who need it, backed by governance, quality, and observability practices that make it trustworthy.
  • Build a data science function from scratch. Define its charter, bring in its first members, and establish how it partners with product and engineering to turn AI ambitions into concrete data requirements and infrastructure.
  • Shape the team for where the function is going. Grow and develop a team of reporting, data, and analytics engineers, build durable in-house expertise alongside our current partners, and set the practices — code review, documentation, on-call — a modern data org runs on.
  • Partner with leaders across the company on how data drives decisions. Work directly with leadership across every function to improve how operational and strategic decisions use data, not just how the platform behind it is built.
What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years in data engineering, analytics engineering, or data leadership, including 4+ years managing teams, with a track record of developing people through significant change.
  • You've led a legacy-to-modern data platform migration (for example, moving off on-prem or legacy BI tools onto a cloud data platform), not just used one.
  • Direct experience with Databricks and Power BI, or a comparable modern cloud data/BI stack, in a hands-on or architectural capacity.
  • You've built or scaled a data science or analytics function, including hiring its first members.
  • Strong fundamentals in data architecture, data modeling, and data governance, and experience managing external partners while growing in-house capability.
  • Excellent communication skills; you're comfortable presenting data strategy and trade-offs to senior and executive stakeholders.

Bonus: familiarity with legacy tools like Crystal Reports or Oracle, experience preparing data infrastructure for ML/AI features (feature stores, data labeling, MLOps foundations), or a background in a product-led or SaaS organization with data governance experience relevant to HR or healthcare.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Full benefits package, including Paid Time Off (PTO), medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with match, robust EAP, wellness program, and much more
  • The salary range for this position is $250,000 - $300,000 (USD). The base salary range represents the anticipated low end and high end of the range for this position. The actual compensation will be influenced by a wide range of factors including, but not limited to previous experience, education, pay market/geography, and scheduled hours.
