We are looking for a highly skilled and hands-on Senior DevOps Engineer to design, build, and optimise scalable cloud infrastructure that powers critical financial services across Africa.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in high-impact environments, enjoys solving complex problems, and is passionate about automation, reliability, and continuous improvement. You will play a key role in enabling engineering teams to deliver secure and efficient solutions in a regulated fintech environment.
Key Responsibilities- Build, operate, and continuously improve cloud infrastructure across development, staging, and production environments
- Design and implement Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD pipelines, and automation solutions
- Monitor, secure, and optimise systems to ensure performance, availability, and resilience
- Enhance observability through effective monitoring, logging, and alerting practices
- Support incident response processes and contribute to post-incident reviews
- Implement and maintain backup, redundancy, failover, and disaster recovery strategies
- Collaborate with security teams to embed DevSecOps practices
- Work closely with software engineers to streamline development and deployment processes
- Maintain technical documentation, including system designs and operational runbooks
- Research and implement tools that improve platform performance and developer experience
- Grade 12 (required)
- Relevant tertiary qualification (advantageous)
- 7+ years’ experience in DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, or Systems Engineering
- Strong experience with AWS (Azure or GCP exposure is beneficial)
- Solid Linux administration experience in production environments
- Proven experience with:
- Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform preferred)
- Containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- CI/CD tools (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
- Monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Loki)
- Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
- Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, or similar)
- Strong understanding of networking, databases, and web servers
- Experience working in secure and compliant environments (PCI-DSS, ISO27001 advantageous)
- Familiarity with Agile and DevOps practices
- Problem-solving and analytical thinking
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Attention to detail and operational excellence
- Proactive risk identification and mitigation
- Adaptability in fast-paced environments
