Mineral Technologies, a Downer company and global leader in mineral processing solutions, is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to join our Engineering & Projects team.
In this unique role, you will lead P&ID development while delivering advanced piping design and 3D modelling solutions for mineral processing projects across Australia and internationally. Working closely with Process and Mechanical Engineers, you will play a key role in transforming process concepts into constructable designs.
This opportunity is ideal for a highly capable designer who can work independently, apply sound engineering judgement and develop practical design solutions from concept through to construction.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Develop and maintain P&IDs from concept through to construction and as built documentation
- Create and manage line numbering, equipment tagging and instrumentation conventions
- Produce 3D piping models, general arrangements, isometrics and fabrication drawings
- Support clash detection, design reviews and technical quality checks
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver quality outcomes
- Apply safety in design principles to ensure safe and maintainable plant designs
- Support and mentor members of the design team
What We're Looking For
You will be an experienced process plant designer with strong expertise in P&ID development and piping design.
To be successful, you will bring:
- Proven experience developing P&IDs from process information and engineering data
- Strong understanding of piping systems, specification breaks and process plant layouts
- Advanced AutoCAD Plant 3D experience across both P&ID and piping disciplines
- Experience delivering designs from concept through to fabrication ready packages
- Ability to identify operability, maintainability and safety considerations within process plants
You Will Also Possess:
- Trade qualification, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Design, Drafting or Engineering
- 10+ years' experience in process plant design drafting
- 5+ years' experience producing P&IDs as a primary project deliverable
- Experience within mining, mineral processing or heavy industrial environments
- Strong knowledge of industry P&ID standards and conventions
- Experience with smart P&ID systems and Autodesk design platforms

Skills Required
- Trade qualification, Advanced Diploma or associate degree in drafting, design or related engineering discipline
- 10+ years' experience in process plant design drafting
- Minimum 5 years' experience producing P&IDs as a primary deliverable
- Demonstrated ownership of P&ID development on major projects
- Advanced AutoCAD Plant 3D capabilities across P&ID and piping disciplines
- Experience configuring and managing AutoCAD Plant 3D projects, specifications, catalogues and class definitions
- Experience using smart P&ID systems and associated databases
- Knowledge of Autodesk Construction Cloud environments
- Experience within mining, mineral processing or heavy industrial environments
- Strong understanding of ISA 5.1 tagging standards and recognised P&ID conventions
- Ability to develop P&IDs from flowsheets and mass balances and deliver fabrication-ready piping packages
- Ability to define specification breaks, line numbering systems, control loop interpretation and slurry pipeline routing considerations
