Copenhagen, Denmark
Saxo Bank is seeking a highly skilled Senior Design Engineer to play a specialist role in our DesignOps team, contributing deep technical expertise to the ongoing evolution of the design system that powers our global trading platforms. In this role, you will independently take on complex engineering challenges, evolve the underlying foundations of our system, contribute directly to our component library, optimise design‑to‑development pipelines, and drive advanced AI initiatives that transform how we move from Figma to code.
You’ll work deeply with both designers and UI engineers to refine patterns, ensure implementation quality, and deliver robust tools, documentation, and technical frameworks that accelerate product teams across the organisation. Every component, animation, workflow, and code path will reflect your senior‑level judgment, engineering depth, and commitment to scalability, performance, and exceptional user experience.
This is your opportunity to shape high‑impact technical solutions within a world‑class fintech platform—empowering millions of traders, investors, and institutional clients through smarter workflows, enhanced tooling, and a design system built for the future.
As a Senior Design Engineer within our Design Operations team, you will apply advanced expertise and operate with a high degree of autonomy to influence how design becomes code, strengthen engineering quality across our component ecosystem, and build the technical foundations that empower designers and developers to create world‑class experiences.
As a key member of our Design Operations team, you will:
- Apply senior‑level engineering expertise to evolve the technical architecture of our design system, ensuring scalability, consistency, and long-term maintainability
- Contribute production-grade code across our component library, design tokens, tooling, and documentation infrastructure
- Independently prototype, refine, and validate advanced UI patterns, partnering closely with UI engineering to ensure high-quality implementation
- Guarantee best‑in‑class translation from Figma to code, establishing processes and tooling that ensure pixel accuracy and built‑in accessibility
- Engineer advanced animations, transitions, and micro‑interactions that balance performance and brand fidelity
- Maintain and improve design foundations, including tokens, semantic structures, theming architecture, and workflows connecting Figma and code
- Optimise and automate design‑to‑development pipelines, building internal tools, scripts, plugins, and CI workflows that reduce friction and accelerate delivery
- Work on technically challenging AI‑driven initiatives, such as generative code from Figma, automated prototyping workflows, Figma Code Connect setup, intelligent linting/QA, and other model‑assisted accelerations
- Create and maintain clear, scalable documentation, ensuring patterns, components, guidelines, and engineering decisions are discoverable and easy to adopt
- Collaborate closely with designers and developers to support integration and uphold engineering excellence across the product ecosystem
About You
You’re a senior-level systems thinker and engineering specialist who excels at solving complex design-to-code challenges. You bring:
- Deep front-end engineering expertise in React, TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Storybook, and component-driven development
- Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG, semantic HTML), and familiarity with frameworks like React Aria or equivalents
- Fluency in Figma, from advanced components and variables to translating design structures into robust, reusable code patterns
- A strong interaction design sensibility, with experience building performant animations, transitions, and micro-interactions in code
- A proactive, engineering-driven approach to problem solving, particularly in workflow automation, plugin/tool development, or internal platform improvements
- Experience navigating and solving complex technical problems and contributing to architectural discussions within design systems or UI engineering
- Curiosity or experience using AI within design and engineering workflows, including generative UI, automated code generation, or ML-assisted QA
