The Role
Lead the architecture and development of mechanical systems and sub-assemblies from 3D CAD through production. Collaborate with mechanical, industrial design, electrical, manufacturing, supplier, and user teams. Manage engineers, establish design standards, support rapid prototyping and design-for-manufacturing, and drive novel robotics products from concept to market. This hands-on role focuses on elegant, user-centered solutions for HaloBraid, a robotic hair-braiding device.
Summary Generated by Built In

Halo is a technology company building the future of haircare for all textures through exceptional engineering and human-centered design. We create category-defining products built for the complexities others overlook. We're building HaloBraid, the world’s first braid assist device. It helps stylists finish braids 5 times faster, flawlessly and gently. This is one of the hardest unsolved problems in robotics, applied to a $270B salon services industry, and integrating computer vision, compliant fiber manipulation, and novel mechanisms.

Billions of hours are spent braiding hair each year. HaloBraid gives that time back. We’re moving from R&D into deployment with salons, and backed by leading investors Seven Seven Six, AlleyCorp, and Bling Capital.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect the design of mechanical systems and sub-assemblies from 3D CAD to production-ready parts.

  • Collaborate with mechanical, industrial design, electrical, and manufacturing engineers, users, and cross-functional teams.

  • Manage engineers, set best practices and standards, and strengthen our engineering culture

  • Push for elegant and effective solutions, challenge status quo, and drive design forward.

  • This is a hands-on engineering role that reports directly to the CEO.

    • Design optimization integrating CFD simulation results

    • Electronics prototyping

  • Experience collaborating with suppliers at the prototype and contract manufacturing stage.

  • Experience managing CAD systems and general assemblies

  • Experience working with industrial design to incorporate user needs, ergonomics, and aesthetics

Working Style

  • User centric, you want to build stuff people use and love

  • Low ego, adaptable, and collaborative spirit

  • Excited to learn through fast-paced iteration and user feedback

  • Passionate, driven by innovation

  • Excellent communication, an ability to concisely convey and discuss complex ideas

Benefits of Working with Us:
