Applications Development Technology Lead Analyst – Senior Cloud & Risk Platform Engineer

Are you passionate about engineering high-throughput, cloud-native distributed systems that power global financial decisioning? Are you an innovative builder who embraces modern AI-augmented software engineering—leveraging intelligent tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude, and Devin to accelerate the SDLC and solve complex engineering challenges faster?

The Applications Development Technology Lead Analyst is a senior-level position responsible for architecting and building robust, resilient, ultra-low latency, and high-performance services across our next-generation Cloud stack. In this role, you will lead the core systems analysis, design, and implementation of mission-critical services spanning Credit Risk and Market Risk platforms, turning quantitative models and complex risk analytics into scalable, real-time cloud microservices.

Responsibilities:
  • Architect & Build Cloud-Native Services: Lead the design, development, and deployment of resilient, event-driven microservices and high-throughput computing pipelines on modern cloud infrastructure (Containers, Kubernetes, Microservices).
  • Power Enterprise Risk Engines: Partner closely with Risk Quantitative Analysts, Risk Managers, and Enterprise Architecture teams to model, calculate, and stream real-time analytics across Credit Risk (PFE, Exposure, Counterparty Risk, Limits) and Market Risk (VaR, Stress Testing, Sensitivity Analysis).
  • Champion AI-Augmented Engineering: Pioneer the adoption of modern AI engineering toolsets (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Devin) across the engineering lifecycle—from rapid prototyping and boilerplate reduction to automated unit/integration test synthesis, complex refactoring, and AI-driven code reviews.
  • Lead System Resiliency & Scalability: Resolve complex architectural bottlenecks through in-depth evaluation of distributed systems, multi-threading, concurrency models, memory management, and enterprise data flows.
  • Define Engineering Excellence: Establish and champion standards for clean code, SOLID principles, automated CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration, and comprehensive telemetry/observability.
  • Technical Mentorship & Thought Leadership: Serve as a technical advisor and coach to mid-level engineers and analysts, conducting design reviews, fostering a culture of continuous learning, and accelerating delivery velocity.
  • Risk & Controls Governance: Appropriately assess risk when business and technical decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency.
Qualifications:
  • 6–10 years of progressive experience in software engineering, distributed systems development, or applications architecture.
  • Core Java & Modern Stack Mastery: Deep expertise in Java (Java 17/21+), J2EE, Spring Boot, reactive frameworks, advanced multi-threading, asynchronous I/O, low-latency processing, and memory optimization.
  • Risk Domain Expertise: Strong working knowledge of Credit Risk and/or Market Risk concepts (e.g., Counterparty Credit Risk, Stress Testing, Exposure Calculations, Value at Risk / VaR, Sensitivities, Scenarios).
  • Cloud & Distributed Computing: Hands-on experience architecting microservices on cloud platforms, with solid containerization and orchestration expertise (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, OpenShift).
  • AI Tooling & Modern Dev Acceleration: Demonstrated proficiency and enthusiasm for integrating AI coding assistants and agentic engineering tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Devin, ChatGPT/LLM APIs) to elevate team velocity, code quality, and automated debugging.
  • High-Throughput Messaging & Event Streaming: Experience with distributed messaging backbones and streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka, Pulsar, or RabbitMQ.
  • API & Data Architecture: Strong experience designing robust RESTful APIs, gRPC services, and working with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MS SQL) and distributed caches/NoSQL platforms (Redis, Hazelcast, Cassandra, MongoDB).
  • Quality & Test Automation: Proven background with testing frameworks (JUnit 5, Mockito, Cucumber, Testcontainers) and performance benchmarking (JMeter, Gatling).
  • CI/CD & DevOps: Hands-on familiarity with modern CI/CD automation pipelines (Git, Tekton, Harness, Jenkins), static analysis (SonarQube), and container security scanning.
  • Leadership & Communication: Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and collaborative skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical and risk concepts clearly to cross-functional stakeholders.
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree / University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Financial Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. (Master's degree preferred).
