Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a Senior Cloud Automation Development Engineer to join our team. The Senior Cloud Automation Development Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of playbook automation for both cloud and on-prem environments. In addition, they are responsible for troubleshooting incidents, and maintaining a cloud automation framework to orchestrate cloud terraform playbooks, on-demand discovery, and real-time dashboards.
What You Will Do

  • Test, plan, implement, manage, and maintain a complex hybrid infrastructure to support the Applied Cloud environment
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with internal stakeholders to create optimal cloud automation environments and configurations for Applied Cloud products
  • Work as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the Cloud Engineering Automation team
  • Construct and maintain documented standards for implementing and configuring Applied Cloud infrastructure
  • Work closely with the Cloud Services Engineers; participate in the planning and implementation of new Applied Cloud environments and resources
  • Participate in environment testing following data center maintenance that may have affected the performance or functionality of an application
  • Continuously analyze infrastructure to determine effectiveness and inefficiencies and create recommendations for improvements
  • Define and implement best practices to support disaster recovery of the Applied Cloud infrastructure
  • Develop and maintain accurate and reusable implementation, testing and any other related IT documentation used for change or configuration process management
  • Maintain the design, implementation, and operational documentation that used to provide guidance to other team members
  • Identify, communicate, and help to implement improvements in the automation process
  • Maintain and/or troubleshoot issues with various operating systems and network infrastructure and assist other team members with the same
  • Assist in analyzing internal production or development problems to determine hardware or software malfunctions and make recommendations
  • Work collaboratively with software engineering to define infrastructure and deployment requirements
  • Derive configuration and compliance with configuration management tools
  • Ability to troubleshoot both Linux and Windows tech stacks
  • Develop and maintain operational tools for deployment, monitoring, and analysis of across both on prem and cloud environment
  • Ability to program in Python as scalable and maintainable code
  • Ability to design, test, and maintain RESTful APIs cloud automation services within Kubernetes and GCP environments
  • Developed cloud frameworks to automate terraform orchestration as IaC
  • Has built IaaS services across network, storage, and compute
  • Continuously look for ways to improve the performance, availability, and security of the Applied Cloud


What You'll Need to Succeed
We're looking for someone who:

  • Has the ability to work from an Applied Systems office or 100% remotely


Your experience should include some or all of the following:

  • 5+ years of directly related work experience and/or an equivalent combination
  • Ability to design and troubleshoot tech stacks including Kubernetes, GCP, Terraform, Python, and RESTful APIs
  • Have experience in developing in both on-prem data centers (VMWare, F5, Netapp) as well as Cloud APIs across GCP, AWS, and Azure
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD Pipelines, and Scripting languages (Terraform/Ansible/Python/Typescript)
  • Strong foundation in server, storage, and network performance monitoring and troubleshooting
  • Understanding of core IT system technologies and Cloud platforms
  • The ability to handle many high-priority and complex tasks/projects simultaneously
  • The ability to work with deadlines and complete work in a timely manner
  • Ability to make accurate decisions based on past knowledge and experience, technical problem solving as well as all defined policies and procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong technical product and environment understanding
  • Excellent organization skills and keen attention to detail
  • The ability to analyze and to prioritize complex situations and risks
  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree plus some specialized training
