The Sr. BI Analyst delivers actionable insights through analysis, reporting, and visualization on large, complex projects, and serves as the Power BI subject matter expert for the organization. This is a senior individual-contributor role: the analyst works independently, mentors less experienced colleagues, and partners directly with business stakeholders and leaders to turn ambiguous questions into scalable, automated solutions.
The ideal candidate brings strong critical thinking - able to decompose an unclear business problem, challenge the assumptions behind a request, and choose the right approach rather than simply building what was asked - paired with fluent, hands-on use of AI tools such as Claude and Microsoft Copilot to accelerate analysis, automate manual work, and design solutions that scale. As AI reshapes BI work, we expect this role to actively apply it, not just be aware of it.
Principal Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and manage business intelligence solutions on complex projects of large scope - dashboards, reports, ad-hoc datasets, and visualizations that guide business decisions.
- Partner with Product, Actuarial & Advanced Analytics, Underwriting, and other core insurance functions to collect, structure, and validate data from multiple sources.
- Audit, compile, and reconcile data to ensure accuracy and integrity.
- Communicate findings clearly to business stakeholders and senior leaders - translating technical analysis into plain-language recommendations, defending methodology when challenged, and providing consultative input beyond what was asked.
- Automate manual reporting processes and build scalable, reusable solutions rather than one-off deliverables.
- Apply AI tools (Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and similar) to accelerate dashboard development, pipeline automation, code generation and review, and report QA - and champion AI-driven process improvement across the BI function.
- Apply critical thinking to ambiguous requests - clarify the underlying business question, evaluate trade-offs, and recommend the approach rather than defaulting to the one requested.
- Conduct peer reviews of colleagues' work and mentor less experienced analysts as the Power BI subject matter expert.
- Support the implementation of new practices, processes, and procedures.
Education, Experience, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 5–7 years of data analytics or related experience.
- Advanced SQL, data modeling, and visualization; recognized Power BI subject matter expertise (Tableau or other BI tools a plus).
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric ecosystem, including:
- OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Notebooks, Pipelines, Dataflows, Power BI integration, and Python for Fabric Notebooks.
- Solid grasp of database structures, relationships, and dependencies.
- Strong critical thinking and proactive problem-solving - comfortable working from an ambiguous request to a defined, scalable solution.
- Strong written and verbal communication with business stakeholders and senior leaders; able to present findings and influence decisions without technical jargon.
- Peer mentoring and peer review capabilities.
- Intermediate insurance domain knowledge and understanding of MGA operations; insurance industry experience preferred.
- Advanced, hands-on AI fluency - daily working use of tools such as Claude and Microsoft Copilot. Candidates should be prepared to describe a specific problem they solved or automated with AI. Specifically:
- Accelerating analysis, report automation, SQL/Python code generation and review, and documentation.
- Effective prompting and AI workflow design, with the judgment to validate AI output.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas, charts, and graphing).
