Position Description

Anoka County Public Health and Environmental Services (PHES) currently has an opening for a Senior Administrative Assistant in Administration.  This position provides centralized control and management for the department’s operational and secretarial needs. Work includes general office management, such as record keeping, purchasing and financial activities, clerical and secretarial support at an executive level, and coordinating special projects.

Emergency Preparedness is a core Public Health responsibility. As a Human Services employee, your roles and responsibilities include: participating in Public Health Emergency Preparedness training and exercises, responding to notifications and activation drills during business hours and periodically outside of business hours, and responding to Public Health emergencies and department responsibilities at the time of need (during business hours, outside of business hours, on weekends and holidays) in order to protect the health and well-being of our residents.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Interviews will take place the week of July 6th, 2026, and the week of July 13th, 2026, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process. 

Pay & Benefits

  • Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 30. $57,262 to $77,292 ($27.53 to $37.16 per hour).

Work Location

  • This position will work at the Anoka County Government Center, 2100 3rd Ave, Anoka, MN 55303.
  • Expected work hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Senior Administrative Assistant – Public Health.

  • Provide complex clerical and secretarial support for the department. Deliver remarkable customer service by answering phones, assisting walk-in guests, and reserving facilities.
  • Coordinate office management and operations activities, including tracking personnel, handling billing, verifying purchases, and monitoring accounts payable and receivable.
  • Prepare key department reports, meeting agendas and minutes, documents, and presentations as needed.
  • Create and edit memos, letters, reports, meeting agendas and minutes, and presentations. Enter data into systems as needed and monitor division email.
  • Act as a liaison and point of contact for employees, the department, and/or the public.
  • Translate concerns and requests for information into clear and accurate responses.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Requires a high school diploma.
  • At least four years of full-time (2,080 annual hours) job-related experience.
  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • Successfully pass criminal background check.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Job-related experience with Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Adobe, and DocuSign.
  • Job-related experience working within an executive business office environment.
  • Provide proficient customer service skills both in person and over the phone.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate workflows.
  • General understanding of general office procedures.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

  • Standard office environment.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness.
  • Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.
  • Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work.
  • Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs.
  • Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment.
  • Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed. Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
