Overview:
SageSure is assisting one of its independent insurance carrier partner Valence.
This new role offers a valuable opportunity to grow with the insurance company as operations are stood up and expanded. The Senior Accountant will assist with the effective setup of accounting and financial reporting functions to meet the needs of the organization. The individual in this position will work with a dynamic team of dedicated professionals who are committed to excellence in fiduciary and financial accountability and reporting. Primary responsibilities include monthly accounting, accounts payable, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of statutory accounting principles (“STAT”) and some knowledge of GAAP, as well as financial policies and controls, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver work products with a high level of accuracy while consistently meeting related deadlines.
What you’d be doing:
- Prepare monthly journal entries, reconciliations, intercompany balancing, and assist with multi-company consolidation
- Prepare and maintain monthly accounting support work-papers and perform reconciliations ensuring compliance with statutory accounting principles
- Analyze account and variance analysis while preparing internal reporting packages for management review
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual statutory financial statements in compliance with applicable accounting principles and other regulatory requirements
- Assist with statutory regulatory reports, including premium tax and other state required regulatory filings
- Support the preparation of supplemental financial exhibits and various other accounting statements and reports, as required by management and the Board
- Work with related third parties to ensure that all data required for financial reporting is received and correct and resolve reconciling items if necessary
- Assist in preparing information for independent auditors and tax preparers
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a business-related field.
- Minimum 2 – 3 years of experience in statutory accounting within P&C industry
- General understanding of GAAP policies, and internal controls
- Knowledge of Microsoft office suite with an emphasis on Excel skills
- Ability to meet strict deadlines, both independently and as part of a team
- Detail oriented and the ability to deliver work products with a high degree of accuracy
- Strong verbal and written skills, and the ability to convey complex information
- Available to work across time zones with flexibility to follow-up on items outside of business hours, including weekends
Highly preferred candidates also have:
- Experience with Insurance Accounting Suite (IAS) or other general ledger system
- Certified Public Accountant or CPA candidate
