About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Financial Accountant to join a General Insurance Company in Australia. This is a global underwriting leader providing best-in-class property, casualty and specialty reinsurance and insurance solutions.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Accountant that will be responsible for supporting the financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and ideally having a background in general insurance.
Purpose and Accountabilities of the role
- Support the preparation of financial statements / APRA returns,
- Monthly balance sheet reconciliation,
- Monthly reconciliation between insurance systems and the general ledger,
- Documenting and building on procedures,
- Journal entries leading up to month/quarter/year end close,
- Assisting with the preparation of the quarterly CFO report,
- Supporting the Finance Operations team with the preparation and lodgement of the various indirect taxes and duties (GST, Stamp Duty, etc),
- Supporting the Finance Operations team with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable,
- Completing Industry Surveys (ABS),
- Annual external audit work; answering audit queries, investigation, assisting with sample testing,
- Quarterly reconciliation between Local results and US GAAP,
- Support in preparing the annual tax returns and Fringe Benefits Tax Return,
- Ad Hoc tasks
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
- CPA or CA qualified,
- Minimum 5 years of financial accounting experience preferably within the General Insurance industry,
- Experience using general ledger systems (Oracle, PeopleSoft, etc),
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills,
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel,
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy,
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels,
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
