Data Test Engineer works closely with data engineers, application developers, product owners, data stewards, analysts, and other stakeholders in an agile environment. In addition to defining, documenting, automating, and executing tests for enterprise data platforms and data-centric applications, they will be involved in sprint planning, daily scrum meetings, development validation, release readiness, and product deployment. They will contribute to both manual and automated test case creation and execution across data pipelines, services, APIs, database objects, reporting layers, data integrity controls, and applications that consume or manage enterprise data.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Quality & Test Engineer II / SDET II to join our Quality Engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust data testing and automation solutions, ensuring data quality across enterprise data platforms and related applications, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable, and trusted data products.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in all phases of the Agile development process, providing input into analysis, design, development, estimation, planning, support, and retrospectives.

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable test automation frameworks for enterprise data platforms, data pipelines, APIs, backend services, and data-centric applications.

• Collaborate with data engineers, developers, product managers, business analysts, data stewards, and platform teams to understand requirements and define test strategies.

• Implement automated test cases to validate source-to-target mappings, ETL/ELT workflows, data transformations, data quality rules, reconciliations, and business logic.

• Perform functional, regression, integration, system, and data validation testing using automation tools and repeatable test data approaches.

• Ensure test coverage across multiple layers, including ingestion, transformation, storage, APIs, data services, reporting/analytics, UI applications, metadata, and database objects.

• Analyze test results, identify data defects, investigate root causes, and work closely with engineering teams to resolve data quality and application issues.

• Drive continuous improvement in data testing processes, automation frameworks, tools, quality gates, and delivery methodologies.

• Contribute to best practices in test automation, data quality engineering, test data management, and enterprise quality engineering.

• Prepare and deliver status reports on testing progress, data validation coverage, automation execution, defect metrics, and quality trends to stakeholders.

• Communicate risks, blockers, data quality concerns, release readiness, and quality trends proactively to project managers and leadership.

• Maintain dashboards and test execution reports in tools like JIRA, Zephyr/TestRail, CI/CD pipelines, or data quality platforms for real-time visibility.

Required Skills & Experience

• 4-7 years of experience in software testing, data testing, data validations, orchestration tools, and automation, with at least 2+ years focused on enterprise data platforms, data warehouses/lakehouses, ETL/ELT pipelines, or data-centric applications.

• Strong programming and scripting skills in Python and SQL; experience with C# or another object-oriented language is a plus.

• Hands-on experience building automated tests using frameworks such as PyTest, Behave, Robot Framework, Playwright, Selenium, or similar tools.

• Experience with API and service testing using tools such as Postman, RestAssured, Karate, or equivalent automation libraries.

• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and version control tools such as Jenkins, TeamCity, GitHub, Azure DevOps, GitLab, or similar.

• Experience with test management and defect tracking tools such as JIRA, Zephyr, TestRail, or equivalent platforms.

• Advance SQL skills and hands-on experience validating data in relational databases, data warehouses, cloud data platforms (Preferred Snowflake), or data lake environments.

• Experience validating ETL/ELT pipelines, source-to-target mappings, schema changes, data lineage, data reconciliation, data completeness, accuracy, timeliness, and referential integrity.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and the ability to investigate complex data issues.

• Good to have experience with ETL tools, data quality, observability, or transformation tools such as dbt tests, fivetran, soda, ADF, airflow, astronomer, Databricks, Snowflake, or similar.

• Good to have experience/exposure to performance testing for data pipelines, database queries, APIs, batch jobs, or large-volume data processing.

Candidate Requirements

• Demonstrated experience interfacing with clients and stakeholders to develop functional, technical, and data validation test cases and communicate status updates.

• Strong domain experience in enterprise data platforms, data engineering, data warehousing, financial services data, sales data, marketing data, or analytics applications.

• Proven ability to learn and deliver solutions in multiple programming languages and technical environments required for data test automation, including Python and SQL.

• Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Data Development Life Cycle, Agile methodologies, and release management practices required.

• Prior experience as QA/SDET/Data Test Engineer on medium to large application or data platform projects, with emphasis on SQL, data pipelines, API/services testing, data validation, and modern web application technologies.

• Strong troubleshooting & analysis skills and capability to work on multiple projects simultaneously across data platforms and application teams.

• Ability to deliver enterprise-level automation solutions that enable in-sprint automation, repeatable data validation, and continuous quality checks.

• Ability to work independently to drive QA and data testing practices while providing clear status reporting to stakeholders.

• Proactively investigates test failures and data discrepancies, logs issues clearly with evidence, and follows up with engineering teams asynchronously.

• Ability to work with stakeholders to prioritize the book of work based on business risk, data criticality, quality trends, and release timelines.
