About the job
The Red Hat Consulting team is looking for a Presales Consulting Architect to join us in the U.S. intelligence community (IC). In this role, you will help scope, design, sell, and farm consulting solutions to be delivered by the North American Public Sector (NAPS) IC Consulting teams. You'll pull from a variety of modern application development practices, along with emerging technologies from the communities of open source, to work with Red Hat's Sales teams, Services teams, and our potential customers' teams in order to create, apply, and deliver our service solutions. As a Presales Consulting Architect, you will help us become the defining technology company of the 21st century built on open source principles. You'll also help us to fulfill our vision by guiding the strategic success of our customers using Red Hat's open source software by building the industry's best team of open source developers and partnering with our customers to build the premium software systems of tomorrow. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do

  • Deliver successful discovery, analysis, and design workshops for teams of technical and non-technical backgrounds that shape the customer use cases and architecture design decisions
  • Scope delivery projects and guide customers through successful pilot and production deployments
  • Assist other architects with the oversight of design, creation, and delivery of content to enable the broader Red Hat teams to sell (Presales), service (Consulting), and support (Customer Experience and Engagement) our cloud solutions at scale
  • Work closely with product business, product engineering, consulting, support, and sales teams to ensure excellent customer experience with Red Hat's offerings, potentially creating new offerings where needed
  • Contribute to the development of repeatable methodologies and tools designed to scale Red Hat's services capabilities, promote repeatable customer engagements, and lower delivery risk
  • Demonstrate expertise in cloud and DevOps communities by producing outstanding whitepapers and webinars, code contributions to relevant projects, and speeches at industry-leading conferences
  • Work with customers on the writing of business justifications if needed
  • Work with the open source community to engineer Open Innovation Labs (Labs)-based software solutions designed to further accelerate our customers' success at Labs
  • Become a trusted adviser to our customers, helping them achieve business success in an ever-changing technology landscape
  • Use this trusted adviser status to anticipate needed solutions to be delivered in the future


What you will bring

  • Broad knowledge of Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Solid understanding of the Linux operating system and its fundamental advantages and challenges
  • Either technical, or sales or scoping-related experience with virtualization, especially Red Hat Virtualization, VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer; VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification is a plus
  • Either technical, or sales or scoping-related experience with cloud technologies, especially Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Either technical, or sales or scoping-related experience with containerization, container technologies, and container orchestration technologies
  • Great customer service skills and desire to make users successful
  • Positive attitude, ability to work as part of a team, and excellent cross-team written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working in the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. IC spaces
  • Great written and verbal external communication and presentation skills
  • Willingness to travel to customer locations 50% or more of the time, following Red Hat's COVID-19 guidelines
  • Willingness to adhere to Red Hat's COVID-19 vaccination policy


The following are considered a plus:

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)-level Linux skills or better; certifications are a plus
  • Practical experience with Red Hat Network Satellite or alternatives
  • Experience with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform or other IT automation and configuration management tools like Puppet or Chef
  • Experience with datacenter automation tools and processes
  • System administration or datacenter architecture experience
  • Practical, direct experience with containerization, container technologies, and container orchestration technologies like Docker, Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes, Rancher, Tanzu, etc.
  • Windows system administration experience
  • Working knowledge of Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) security guidelines and how to adhere to them
  • Ability to study and learn quickly and insert new topics into the conversation
  • Passion for open source software
  • Solid Linux system administration skills at the Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) level or higher; relevant certifications
  • Experience with federal clouds like AWS GovCloud, AWS C2S and SC2S, or Microsoft Azure Government
