Want to build the backend systems that allow AI agents to safely perform real business actions?
SOFICO is building its next generation of AI-powered enterprise software. We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to build the Java APIs and business workflows connecting our core Miles platform with our new Agentic AI platform.
This isn't about building another chatbot. You'll work on the engineering layer that allows AI agents to safely execute real business processes — with predictable outcomes, strong validation, testing and failure handling.
You'll work primarily with Java, Quarkus, REST APIs and distributed systems, alongside AI and workflow engineers building SOFICO's new AI platform.
What you'll do...
- Build and evolve Java/Quarkus backend services and REST APIs that expose Miles business capabilities to our AI and automation platforms.
- Design reliable multi-step business workflows, including validation, transactional behaviour, error handling and recovery.
- Integrate Miles with our Agentic AI platform, Temporal and other enterprise systems.
- Turn complex business requirements into clean, maintainable and well-tested backend solutions.
- Work closely with Backend, AI and Workflow Engineers, Business Analysts and Test Automation Engineers to build new capabilities end-to-end.
- Strong professional experience building backend applications in Java.
- Solid experience designing and implementing REST APIs, microservices and enterprise integrations.
- Strong understanding of automated testing, including unit and integration testing.
- Experience building backend systems involving business rules, transactions and complex workflows.
- Experience or genuine interest in AI-assisted software engineering: at SOFICO, we actively encourage engineers to bring AI tools (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) into every step of the product and software development lifecycle, from specification and planning through implementation and testing, and you should be eager to grow that practice with us
- Experience with Quarkus, Temporal, saga patterns or workflow orchestration.
- Experience with distributed systems or event-driven architectures.
- Experience building backend capabilities for AI, automation or machine-to-machine integrations.

Skills Required
- Backend software engineering experience using Java and/or Python in production
- Experience designing and implementing REST APIs and integrations with complex enterprise systems
- Experience with typed contracts or schemas and strong automated-testing practices across unit, integration and contract testing
- Understanding of transactional systems, business-rule implementation and saga or workflow patterns
- Experience with Temporal or another workflow-orchestration engine
- Experience with Miles, leasing, automotive finance, fleet or mobility software
- Experience building APIs or capability layers for AI agents, automation platforms or machine-to-machine consumers
