Solve by Talent is partnering with the University of Sydney to recruit a Research Data Storage Specialist within Information and Communications Technology (ICT). This role will contribute to the delivery and ongoing operation of research systems that support cutting-edge research activity across one of Australia’s leading universities.

The opportunity 

 

This role sits within the Research Infrastructure team, responsible for delivering the data storage services that underpin world-class research across the University. 

 

You will play a key role in managing and evolving the University's research data ecosystem, working across on-premises and cloud-based storage platforms to ensure researchers have secure, scalable and effective data services. Ultimately, you'll help shape how research data is stored, managed and accessed across the institution, enabling researchers to tackle complex problems and drive innovation. 

What you’ll do 

  • Manage and optimise research data storage platforms across cloud and on-premises environments. 

  • Work with researchers and stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose storage solutions. 

  • Support data lifecycle management, including retention, archiving, access and governance practices. 

  • Collaborate with vendors, managed service providers and ICT teams to ensure reliable and secure service delivery. 

  • Contribute to the implementation and continuous improvement of research data storage services, policies and processes. 

 

What we’re looking for 

  • Background in Research organisations or institutions, with an understanding of research projects, workflows and lifecycles.

  • Experience managing enterprise data storage platforms, research data services or large-scale data environments. 

  • Understanding of data lifecycle management including research data workflows, data retention, data management, and governance principles, with familiarisation with the FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) 

  • Experience supporting storage infrastructure and working across cloud and on-premises environments. 

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work closely with researchers, vendors and technical teams.
