Solve by Talent is partnering with the University of Sydney to recruit a Research Computing Specialist within Information and Communications Technology (ICT). This role will contribute to the delivery and ongoing operation of research systems that support cutting-edge research activity across one of Australia’s leading universities.

The opportunity 

 

This role sits within the Research Infrastructure team, responsible for delivering the computing platforms and services that support world-class research across the University. 

You will play a key role in shaping the University's research computing capability, working across high-performance computing (HPC), cloud platforms and research technology services, enabling researchers the tools and infrastructure needed to tackle complex problems and drive innovation. 

 

What you’ll do 

  • Manage and optimise research computing platforms across cloud and on-premises environments. 

  • Support the delivery of high-performance computing (HPC) services and research technology initiatives. 

  • Work with researchers, vendors and ICT teams to design and improve research computing services. 

  • Monitor, troubleshoot and maintain research infrastructure to ensure reliability, security and performance. 

  • Contribute to the implementation of new research computing capabilities, services and platforms. 

 

What we’re looking for 

  • Background in Research organisations or institutions, with an understanding of research projects, workflows and lifecycles.

  • Experience managing research computing, scientific computing or high-performance computing (HPC) environments. 

  • Sound understanding of cloud platforms, infrastructure services and modern computing environments.

  • Experience supporting complex technical platforms and troubleshooting infrastructure, systems or network issues. 

  • Solid stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work closely with researchers, vendors and technical teams.
