IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.
The Reliability Engineering Advisor, Electrical & Power is the function's technical authority for IREN's data center electrical infrastructure, from utility and high-voltage intake to the critical load: substations, transformers, switchgear, generators and paralleling, ATS/STS, UPS and batteries, PDU/RPP and busway, protection and controls. The role owns the enterprise electrical maintenance and testing strategies and operating limits; assures every maintenance plan meets IEEE, NFPA and NETA; owns the switching, testing and procedure standards the sites execute; leads failure analysis for electrical assets; and defines the OEM versus self-perform split for each electrical asset class. It is hands-on with the site teams: witnessing switching and testing, supporting incidents, conducting readiness reviews at each campus stage, approving fit-for-purpose deviations from Regional Asset Managers, and giving functional direction and mentoring to the site reliability engineers, who execute to its strategies and escalate to it.
With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.

- Pre-employment screening, including background check and substance testing may be required according to company policies.
- Regular travel to the Childress campus and other IREN sites is required; availability to support electrical incidents outside normal hours as needed.
Job responsibilities
- Electrical Maintenance Strategy & Operating Limits — own the enterprise HV, MV and LV maintenance and testing strategies with a documented technical basis, meeting IEEE, NFPA, NETA and OEM requirements; set the criticality-driven testing regime the campuses execute; publish the electrical operating limits and guardrails the campuses and the integrated operations centre run to.
- Switching, Testing & Procedures — own the electrical switching, isolation and testing standards; develop, review and approve switching orders, MOPs, EOPs and energized-work controls; witness high-consequence switching, transfers, load-bank and integrated systems tests; keep protection settings, coordination and arc-flash studies and single-line diagrams current and reflected in procedures.
- Standards Compliance & Assurance — act as the function's authority on electrical codes and standards; review site programs for conformance to NFPA 70B/70E, IEEE and NETA; support audits and regulator and customer evidence requests; maintain the electrical testing and inspection records framework.
- Root-Cause Analysis & Defect Elimination — lead the failure analysis for electrical asset failures and serve as the technical member of asset-related incident investigations, contributing asset and maintenance factors to HSE-led investigations; define corrective and preventive actions and verify closure; run bad-actor analysis and determine fleet applicability through technical advisories, fleet inspections, strategy or spares changes and OEM engagement.
- Reliability Engineering & Lifecycle — apply RCM, FMEA/FMECA and reliability analytics to electrical systems; design condition-monitoring programs (thermography, ultrasonic/partial discharge, DGA, battery monitoring, power quality) that produce maintenance decisions; evaluate redundancy, single points of failure and common-mode risk across the topology; review electrical changes through the operational management of change process; provide reliability input to specifications, acquisition, commissioning/IST and handover, and to lifecycle, obsolescence and critical-spares decisions.
- OEM Service & Self-Perform Model — define the split between OEM service and IREN's own trained staff for each electrical asset class, including UPS and batteries; set the responsibility matrix, qualification criteria, procedure governance and warranty-protection conditions with Procurement; build the competency that reduces reliance on OEM service while protecting coverage, safety and cybersecurity.
- Site Support, Readiness & Capability — provide day-to-day technical support and functional direction to Regional Asset Managers, site Planning & Reliability teams and Operations: review fit-for-purpose deviations, support incident response and recovery, advise on energized-work decisions, conduct electrical readiness reviews at each campus stage and witness commissioning and acceptance testing; mentor site reliability engineers, electrical engineers and technicians and contribute to competency standards and procedure quality; maintain the electrical reliability KPIs and report performance, risk and required actions to the function and site leadership; feed campus results and bad actors back into the enterprise strategy.
