About the role/team
WEX Inc. is seeking a motivated and results-driven Relationship Manager to collaborate with WEX Corporate Payments Direct Middle Market (Direct MM) customers with the goal to create mutual value, retain and grow significant profitable payments volume.
The ideal candidate will function as a junior relationship manager and be accountable for delivering on strategic growth objectives, as well as staying abreast of day-to-day operations.
This position will report to the Sr Payments Partnership Manager in WEX Corporate Payments and be an individual contributor working in partnership with other WEX resources and teams supporting our business. This role can work remotely within the US.
How you'll make an impact
The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to:
Serve as the functional lead for a portfolio of ~100 of WEX’s Direct MM commercial partners. This requires complex team coordination, skilled time management and an understanding of all facets of each partners’ key stakeholders and business, including processes, technology, and customer relationships.
Work closely with WEX Corporate Payments leadership, account management, managed services, operations, finance, legal, product management, and product solutions. Regular contact with our WEX Direct MM partners is critical, and as such, the Relationship Manager should expect 30% of time spent connecting with portfolio partners.
Be measured based upon predefined accomplishment of milestones, projects, and financial metrics that relate to assigned Direct MM partners within WEX’s portfolio.
As the client advocate and relationship owner, establish, develop, maintain and grow existing relationships.
Form key trusted advisor roles with WEX Corporate Payments leadership, operations, product, technology, and finance.
Act as an escalation point for significant issues as they arise, helping to drive timely resolution.
Work closely with internal teams to assist in driving process improvement and resolution of operational issues.
Lead Quarterly Business Reviews with WEX and Middle Market Direct partners’ senior management.
Work with leadership and delivery teams to maintain and drive execution of an active roadmap of new value creation concepts/functionality and their associated work plans for implementation.
Mitigate risks and drive opportunities, with respect to relationships and profitability.
Identify and eliminate barriers to the successful delivery of products, services and financial growth.
Manage partner contract renewals and negotiation process to secure deal terms that will facilitate profitable growth from Direct MM partners.
Assist product solutions in the creation of business cases for product design opportunities in partnership with the WEX Corporate Payments Product team.
As the contract and billing owner, understand and validate invoices and contract clauses, assist in pricing model development.
Look for value-add opportunities to share additional WEX services; assist in the sales and implementation process for new embedded partners.
Experience you'll Bring:
Bachelor’s degree
5-10 years experience in relationship management, consultative sales, contract negotiations, operations, and/or solution architecture roles.
Relationship management experience, preferably with mid-sized commercial businesses and payment technology companies
Commercial card and Payments knowledge
Demonstrated financial acumen
Excellence in personal effectiveness and credibility with management and partners
Excellence in flexible problem solving, analysis, and issue resolution
Consultative sales
Contract negotiations
Payments product and/or technology experience
Project management experience
Ability to travel up to 30% of the time
