The Reinsurance Underwriting Manager leads the evaluation, pricing, and underwriting of reinsurance treaties (and facultative placements, if applicable) across P&C lines. This role ensures the company assumes profitable reinsurance risk, maintains underwriting discipline, and supports strategic growth objectives. The ideal candidate combines deep technical underwriting expertise with strong analytical, negotiation, and relationship‑management skills.

Key ResponsibilitiesUnderwriting & Portfolio Management
  • Evaluate and underwrite reinsurance submissions across property, casualty, and specialty lines.

  • Analyze exposure data, loss history, catastrophe modeling outputs, and underwriting guidelines to determine risk quality.

  • Develop pricing recommendations using actuarial models, rating tools, and market benchmarks.

  • Manage a portfolio of assumed reinsurance business to ensure profitability, diversification, and alignment with risk appetite.

  • Monitor treaty performance, emerging trends, and loss development; recommend corrective actions when needed.

Deal Structuring & Negotiation
  • Structure treaty terms, conditions, and coverage features that balance competitiveness with risk control.

  • Lead negotiations with brokers and cedents on pricing, terms, and contract wording.

  • Review and approve contract language to ensure clarity, enforceability, and alignment with underwriting intent.

Market & Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, cedents, reinsurers, and internal stakeholders.

  • Represent the company in underwriting meetings, audits, and market presentations.

  • Stay informed on market conditions, capacity shifts, regulatory changes, and emerging risks.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with actuarial, catastrophe modeling, claims, and finance teams to support underwriting decisions.

  • Provide insights to senior leadership on portfolio performance, market opportunities, and strategic direction.

  • Support the development and refinement of underwriting guidelines, pricing tools, and risk frameworks.

Leadership & Governance
  • Mentor and develop junior underwriters and analysts.

  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, underwriting authority levels, and regulatory requirements.

  • Contribute to annual planning, capital allocation discussions, and risk management initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Actuarial Science, Business, or related field; CPCU, ARe, or actuarial credentials preferred.

  • 7–10+ years of P&C reinsurance underwriting experience (treaty, facultative, or both).

  • Strong understanding of P&C lines, catastrophe modeling, actuarial pricing, and contract wording.

  • Proven ability to negotiate complex reinsurance deals.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and relationship‑building skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple submissions, deadlines, and stakeholders.

Salary: The base pay range is $150,000.00 - 185,000.00. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
