A growing tech-driven commercial insurance company is seeking an experienced Regional Sales Manager to strengthen and expand its relationships with independent insurance agencies and brokers throughout New York City.
This is a field-focused, individual contributor position responsible for driving commercial Property & Casualty business through an established distribution network. The territory includes approximately 800 agency and broker relationships, with the greatest concentration across the NYC.
The successful candidate will be comfortable spending two to three days per week meeting with agency partners, identifying growth opportunities, providing product education, and increasing new and renewal business. This is not a direct-to-consumer insurance sales position and does not involve managing employees.
Employment Type: Full-time permanent
Location: Remote - MUST physically reside in New York City (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, or Staten Island)
Compensation: $100,000-120,000 base + uncapped monthly commission + full benefits (see below)
What You'll Do
- Manage and develop relationships with independent commercial insurance agencies and brokers across the five boroughs
- Maintain regular contact with an assigned portfolio of agency partners through in-person meetings, video calls, training sessions, and business reviews
- Identify agencies with the potential to generate additional commercial P&C business
- Increase new business submissions, policy placements, and renewal production within the assigned territory
- Build relationships with agency principals, producers, account managers, and other key decision-makers
- Introduce new agency partners and expand the company’s distribution footprint
- Train new agencies and agency employees on available products, underwriting appetite, systems, and submission processes
- Help agency partners identify appropriate insurance solutions for small and mid-sized commercial clients
- Review territory activity and production results to determine where additional engagement or support is needed
- Work closely with underwriting and internal business partners to address agency needs and move opportunities forward
- Support the introduction of new products, programs, and sales initiatives
- Deliver product presentations, virtual training sessions, and platform demonstrations
- Maintain accurate agency, pipeline, meeting, and sales activity information in Salesforce
- Represent the organization at local industry events, association meetings, conferences, and trade shows
- Participate in occasional national or regional team meetings requiring overnight travel
Territory and Travel Expectations
- Candidates must live within, or in close commuting distance of, New York City
- Regular travel throughout the five boroughs is required
- The position is expected to be in the field approximately two to three days per week
- Most agency visits can be completed within the same business day using a personal vehicle or public transportation
- Occasional overnight travel may be required for company meetings or industry events
- Candidates must be able to independently travel throughout the assigned territory
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in insurance sales, territory management, agency relations, business development, production underwriting, or a comparable distribution-focused role
- Commercial Property & Casualty insurance experience
- Experience managing an established network of independent agents or brokers
- Demonstrated success conducting agency visits, business reviews, product presentations, or producer training
- Understanding of how commercial insurance business is marketed, submitted, underwritten, placed, and renewed through the independent agency channel
- Ability to build credibility with agency principals, producers, account managers, and underwriting partners
- Strong relationship-building, presentation, negotiation, and written communication skills
- Ability to independently organize a high-activity territory and prioritize agency opportunities
- Comfortable using CRM and business productivity tools, including Salesforce, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, insurance, communications, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience
