The YMCA of the North Shore is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Gymnastics Director to lead and grow our gymnastics program at the Marblehead YMCA. This is an exciting opportunity for a gymnastics professional who is passionate about the sport, enjoys developing coaches, and is committed to creating positive experiences that help young athletes build confidence, skills, and a lifelong love of gymnastics.

The Marblehead YMCA gymnastics program serves nearly 500 youth during the school year and approximately 80 children each week during summer camp. As the Gymnastics Director, you will provide leadership and oversight for the overall growth, quality, and development of the program, including recreational gymnastics, member activities, open gym, birthday parties, gymnastics summer camp, and team-level opportunities.

💙 What You'll Do

Lead & Grow the Gymnastics Program

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the overall growth and development of the Marblehead YMCA gymnastics program.
  • Develop high-quality gymnastics programming that meets the needs and interests of youth and families in the community.
  • Oversee recreational classes, open gym, birthday parties, summer camp, and other gymnastics-related member experiences.
  • Monitor enrollment, participation, program quality, and community needs to identify opportunities for continued growth.
  • Support the progression of gymnasts from recreational programming into team-level opportunities.
  • Ensure a consistent, high-quality experience across all gymnastics programming.

Coach & Develop Young Gymnasts

  • Provide high-quality gymnastics coaching and skill development for youth participants.
  • Support gymnasts in developing confidence, strength, skills, and a positive connection to the sport.
  • Develop and choreograph floor routines as appropriate.
  • Create an environment that is challenging, encouraging, inclusive, and fun.
  • Build positive relationships with gymnasts and families and communicate effectively about participant progress and program expectations.

Lead & Develop Staff

  • Recruit, onboard, train, supervise, and develop gymnastics coaches and instructors.
  • Create staff schedules and ensure appropriate coverage for all programs and activities.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional development to strengthen staff performance.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative team environment where coaches feel supported, valued, and motivated.
  • Lead by example and inspire staff to provide exceptional service and quality programming.

Build Strong Family & Community Connections

  • Maintain regular and effective communication with participants, parents, caregivers, and staff.
  • Build strong relationships with families and create a welcoming environment where participants feel connected to the YMCA.
  • Respond professionally to questions, concerns, and feedback.
  • Identify opportunities to increase family engagement, participation, and connection to the YMCA.

Support Summer Camp & Special Programs

  • Provide leadership and support for gymnastics summer camp programming.
  • Help ensure camp programming is safe, engaging, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with YMCA standards.
  • Support special events, member benefit activities, open gym, birthday parties, and other gymnastics programming as needed.

Qualifications

Additional Qualifications

  • Previous experience coaching gymnasts through Level 4 is preferred, but not required.
  • General knowledge of Xcel and/or JO compulsory gymnastics programs and applicable Code of Points.
  • Must have and maintain all required YMCA of the USA certifications or demonstrate a willingness and ability to obtain required certifications within one year of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of gymnastics safety, skill progression, spotting techniques, and appropriate coaching practices.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Must be physically able to demonstrate and participate in gymnastics activities as necessary to effectively lead programming.
  • Must be able to safely spot and assist gymnasts through Level 4 skills.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and move safely throughout a gymnastics facility for extended periods.
  • Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to participant safety needs and emergencies.
