General Statement of Duties:
To assist individuals with disabilities ages 13 and older in Special Recreation summer evening programs, implementation and oversight of the scheduled activities for both indoor and outdoor recreational settings.
Essential Functions:
- Provide direct leadership and assist in the implementation of all assigned recreation programs and services.
- Assist in providing developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs and interests of the participants.
- Assist in the implementation of daily activities in a program setting according to established schedule.
- Participate in scheduled daily activities with participants.
- Accompany participants on field trips.
- May transport supplies via a park district vehicle.
- Assist in the development and implementation of goals and objectives specific to the area of responsibility.
- Assist in the evaluation of programs and services in area of responsibility.
- Maintain program area in a clean, neat, and organized manner.
- Assist in the purchase, distribution, and maintenance of proper inventory for all supplies and materials within area of responsibility. Submit appropriate receipts as required.
- Establish cooperative working relationships with co-workers and parents of participants.
- Attend department and park district meetings and training sessions.
- Perform duties in compliance with the policies and procedures as established by the park district.
- Participate in park district safety and training program to ensure that work performed and services provided are done in a safe manner.
Marginal Functions:
- Assist with other recreation programs, services, and special events as needed.
- Assist staff and volunteers in the performance of their duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Age:
- 16 years and older
Education:
- Two years of high school preferred.
- High school graduation is highly preferred.
- Some college desirable.
Experience:
- Working with individuals of various ages and abilities.
- Assisted in supervising groups of individuals in a recreational setting preferred.
Knowledge:
- General knowledge of recreation, parks, and leisure service field.
- General knowledge of programs and services for assigned area of responsibility.
- General knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities for participants in a recreational setting.
License / Certification:
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within one (1) year.
Conditions of Employment May Include:
- Provide proof of date of birth.
- Provide a copy of driver's license or photo identification.
- Provide driver's abstract if position duties require driving.
- Submit to a reference check and employment verification.
- Submit to a state criminal background check.
- Submit to a pre-placement physical and drug screening if position will involve transportation of participants.
- Submit to reasonable cause and post-accident alcohol and drug testing.
Hours:
- Weekday evenings, some weekends, and some daytime hours depending on program needs.
- Approximately 5 - 15 hours per week
