Background:

The Opportunity:
P&G has an opportunity for a PhD intern to work in our Grooming R&D business to develop structure-property relationships in our polymeric blade coatings.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong eagerness to learn and grow professionally and possess excellent communication skills—both written and verbal. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead efforts in determining the relationships between material properties and their impact on product performance.
- Design and execute prototyping and characterization experiments to controllably vary polymeric parameters and measured material properties.
- Perform hands-on synthesis, characterization, and structure/property model building related to polymeric blade coatings.
- Integrate information from a broad range of internal and external sources, collaborating as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Job Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Working towards a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
Technical Skills:
- Experience with polymer property characterization techniques.
- Ability to research and compile information to design controlled comparative experiments and define quantitative endpoints.
- Strong scientific communication skills — able to synthesize literature, document protocols, and present recommendations to a technical audience.
- Ability to independently scope and execute a primarily self-directed 12-week research project.
- Available to work a 12-week internship from May/early June to August in the summer of 2027. Work 3 to 5 days a week in office at South Boston, MA location.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in surface analysis, microscopy, spectroscopy, polymeric structure-property relationships, and data analysis.
- Experience in polymer chemistry and polymer chemical analysis.
- Familiar with, able to apply, and collaborate in the application of digital tools to the analysis and optimization of polymer properties in formulations.
