About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Manager 1 to lead quality assurance initiatives, testing strategy, automation and AI enablement, and team development across technology projects. This role will partner closely with development, product, and business teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions while driving continuous improvement, shift-left quality practices, responsible AI adoption, test automation, and quality excellence.

As a people leader, you'll mentor QA professionals, establish testing best practices, and help shape the future of quality engineering within the organization.

What You'll Do

  • Lead software quality assurance activities across multiple projects and applications.
  • Develop and execute test strategies, test plans, and automation plans.
  • Oversee functional, regression, integration, performance, and user acceptance testing.
  • Manage defect identification, tracking, root cause analysis, and resolution.
  • Establish quality standards, metrics, and reporting to drive continuous improvement.
  • Conduct quality reviews and assessments to ensure compliance with organizational standards.
  • Mentor and develop QA Associates and Senior QA Associates.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve software quality and delivery outcomes.
  • Drive adoption of scalable test automation, continuous testing, and quality engineering practices across delivery teams.
  • Drive adoption of AI-assisted quality engineering practices to improve test design, automation development, test data creation, defect analysis, and team productivity.
  • Evaluate AI use cases and tools for quality engineering while promoting responsible use, appropriate governance, data protection, and human oversight.
  • Coach QA professionals on effective prompt development and the practical use of generative AI within testing and automation workflows.
  • Provide technical direction for automation frameworks and ensure automated tests are maintainable, reliable, and integrated into delivery pipelines.
  • Champion risk-based testing, early quality engagement, and measurable quality outcomes throughout the software development lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting Workday implementations or major Workday enhancement programs, including testing of Workday HCM, Financials, Payroll, Benefits, or integrations.
  • 10-12 years of experience in software quality assurance, testing, or quality engineering.
  • Experience leading testing initiatives, managing QA teams, and guiding automation-focused quality engineering practices.
  • Working knowledge of Playwright and Selenium, with the ability to review automation approaches, provide technical direction, and coach engineers on effective implementation.
  • Working knowledge of generative AI and AI-assisted software development or testing tools, such as Microsoft Copilot, GitHub Copilot, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience applying AI to improve test design, automation development, test data generation, defect triage, root cause analysis, or quality reporting.
  • Ability to assess AI-generated outputs, manage associated quality and data risks, and guide teams in the responsible use of AI.
  • Experience with API testing, CI/CD pipelines, source control, test management, and defect tracking tools.
  • Ability to define and use quality metrics, including automation effectiveness, defect trends, test coverage, and release readiness, to support risk-based decisions.
  • Strong knowledge of testing methodologies, automation frameworks, and Agile delivery practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred

  • ISTQB, CSQA, CQE, or equivalent certification.
  • Leading QA activities for large-scale enterprise applications, with hands-on experience supporting Workday implementations, integrations, or major Workday transformation initiatives.
  • Experience with enterprise applications, modern web and API automation tools, and cloud-based delivery environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Playwright, Selenium, Postman, Azure DevOps, or comparable tools is strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading or supporting AI-enabled quality engineering initiatives is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Azure AI, or comparable AI-enabled engineering tools is preferred.
