Part-Time Freelance News Writer- Buffalo
Are you a dogged news junkie who lights up as the police scanner blares with a tip? The newsperson most likely to have an anonymous source text you with a big story? Townsquare Media Buffalo is hiring a passionate Digital News Freelancer to enhance our hyperlocal news coverage, cultivate strong news leads and engage the community around hard-hitting stories on multiple platforms. This position could turn into a more permanent position with Townsquare Media Buffalo.
We are looking for someone who is dedicated to being the first and most accurate with the news that affects our community most. The ideal candidate must live local to Buffalo, NY and have strong storytelling skills and will ensure journalistic integrity is upheld in our coverage. This candidate will be responsible for breaking news stories and therefore must be flexible and efficient, must be able to multitask and potentially juggle multiple leads, while also being able to dig deep into a variety of topics for compelling reports.
Responsibilities
- Candidate will create meaningful contacts with local officials
- Produce 8-10 news stories a week on average
- Candidate will work with DME (Digital Managing Editor) to create news reports via audio and/or video
Qualifications
- Experience in Journalism or related field
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task
- Proficiency with social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
- Passion for local media!
