We are currently seeking an Epidemiologist II / Project Manager to join our multi-disciplinary team that conducts research on behalf of NIH and other Federal clients. You will be responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of research studies including budgets, timelines, staffing and subcontracts, protocol and study materials development, IRB and other regulatory submissions, development and oversight of biospecimen collection, processing and assay plans as well as quality assurance plans and field site monitoring, and overall study communications. You will collaborate and consult with external investigators and internal project team members. You will also provide oversight of data management and statistical analysis plans and contribute to scientific peer reviewed publications.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all stages of research projects from protocol development through data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Provide oversight and direction to project teams and manages all aspects of research study activities from inception to close out
  • Collaborate with colleagues and clients on matters related to the design, implementation, and management of epidemiologic and clinical research studies
  • Plan timelines and project activities ensuring adherence to all contract requirements and delivery schedules
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary project team to estimate requirements, and prepare preliminary budgets
  • Provide fiscal management and oversight throughout project ensuring all work is performed within budget and time constraints
  • Provide project management support and oversight for development and implementation of procedures for specimen shipping, processing, and storage
  • Work with clients, study collaborators and project staff to develop and implement study protocols including preparing data collection instruments, manuals of operations, and monitoring reports
  • Provide technical assistance, including overseeing the development of training materials and workshops
  • Draft IRB packages and coordinating multiple site approvals
  • Maintain study documents, hosting meetings with study collaborators and project staff, responsible for project-related day-to-day study communications
  • Work with programmers to develop requirements for data and specimen management systems, study tracking and quality control reports
  • Ensure development of quality assurance plans and procedure manuals and oversee implementation and monitoring of quality throughout study
  • Recommend and implement innovative process ideas to impact study operations
  • Serve as the liaison with internal and external partners to ensure effective partnership efforts
  • Write monthly project reports and provide written and oral progress reports to clients and management
  • Oversee data collection and analysis efforts
  • Plan and oversee interpretation of standard and advanced epidemiologic and statistical analyses with minimal guidance
  • Prepare oral and written scientific communications, including scientific presentations, manuscripts, technical reports, study protocols, and proposals
  • Performs additional duties as required


Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in epidemiology or related field with 3 years of experience managing research projects or a Master's degree in epidemiology with 5-7 years of experience managing research projects
  • Experience in the design and execution of epidemiologic research, including advanced statistical analysis, and in publishing research results
  • Proficiency in SAS, R, or similar statistical programming language
  • Experience with direct supervision of research project staff


Other highly desired, but not required, skillsets:

  • Background in cancer or environmental epidemiology
  • Molecular or genetic epidemiology or other "omics" research experience
  • GIS and other geospatial data analysis
  • Experience working in the Federal space as a government contractor
  • Record of contribution to peer reviewed publications
