The Project Manager will oversee the planning and delivery of SRJ’s education activities, in alignment with SRJ and AAAS goals. Our portfolio includes skills-building workshops on science communication in the courts, which aim to prepare STEMM professionals to effectively convey complex scientific information for judges, as well as science education programs for judges and justice-system professionals. The Project Manager will design and deliver training programs, continually managing timelines, budgets, and engagement while identifying and addressing challenges to maintain project success.

The Project Manager reports to the SRJ Program Director and collaborates with a small team of “boundary spanners” in science and law. The Project Manager will also coordinate with other science communication professionals across the AAAS Office of Science, Policy and Society Programs to align outreach, content, and assessment where appropriate. This position will provide mentoring and coaching for junior staff.  This position is full-time, subject to grant funding, and will work out of our Washington, D.C., office with the option to telework up to three days per week.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and deliver training programs on science communication within the legal system, including simplifying technical content, storytelling, and visual communication.
  • Collaborate with judges, judicial staff, and other legal experts to understand current needs and tailor training to real-world challenges.
  • Develop and implement detailed project work plans, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring projects stay on schedule and meet performance targets.
  • Assess and evaluate project effectiveness.
  • Mentor and manage early-career staff.
  • Regular domestic travel (up to 20%) is required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ progressively responsible work experience.
  • Proven success designing and scaling adult education programs in person and online.
  • Proven success translating complex scientific and technical topics into accessible language.
  • Proficiency in science communication curriculum design, workshop facilitation, and content creation.
  • Strongly preferred: Experience with law or judicial education.
  • Experience designing and applying evaluation methods for adult learning outcomes.
  • Experience in program coordination and managing complex projects.
  • Proven ability to track budgets, assess program impact, and manage deliverables.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to navigate difficult conversations about high-stakes public issues.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.

The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is $95,000 - $115,000 per year. AAAS currently provides the following benefits for this position: paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, paid holidays, health insurance, flexible spending account, dental insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, retirement benefits, short- and long-term disability, each subject to the terms of the applicable program. Additional benefits may apply.
