Project Manager – Traveling Electrical Construction
Pieper Electric is seeking a Project Manager to lead electrical and other small construction projects for a key national customer. This position is responsible for delivering projects safely, profitably, on schedule, and within scope while maintaining strong relationships with customers and field teams.
The ideal candidate brings construction experience, strong financial and operational judgment, and the ability to lead projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a collaborative, solutions-oriented project manager who enjoys travel and building long-term customer partnerships.
Location and Travel
This position may be based in New Berlin or another local Pieper office and requires up to 75% nationwide travel. Travel will primarily support projects for a key national customer and may include frequent overnight stays and visits to active construction sites.
Key Responsibilities
Project and Financial Management
- Plan and lead construction projects from preconstruction through completion.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and according to customer requirements.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, resource plans, forecasts, and documentation.
- Monitor project performance and take appropriate action to protect profitability and cash flow.
- Manage billing, collections, change orders, and project closeout.
- Coordinate labor, materials, equipment, and other resources across branches and departments.
- Communicate project status, risks, and resource needs to customers and company leadership.
Customer and Business Development
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with customers, field teams, subcontractors, and internal partners.
- Ensure customers receive responsive, high-quality service throughout the project lifecycle.
- Address customer concerns promptly and develop practical solutions.
- Identify additional project and service opportunities within existing customer relationships.
- Support business development through industry relationships and professional networking.
Safety Leadership
- Make safety the highest priority in project planning and execution.
- Partner with field leadership to identify hazards and implement appropriate controls.
- Promote open communication between field and office teams regarding safety concerns, improvements, training, and PPE needs.
- Reinforce company safety expectations and support the goal of zero incidents.
- Complete required safety training and actively model safe work practices.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five or more years of relevant project management or electrical construction experience.
- Working knowledge of construction estimating, scheduling, budgeting, billing, and change-order processes.
- Ability and willingness to travel nationwide up to 75%.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Strong communication, organization, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, building science, or a related discipline.
- Project management experience within electrical construction.
- Experience managing projects for national or multi-site customers.
- Demonstrated success managing project profitability and customer relationships.

Physical and Travel Requirements
This position combines office-based work with frequent nationwide travel and visits to active construction sites. The role requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods and regularly walk through job sites that may involve outdoor conditions, uneven surfaces, elevated noise levels, and required personal protective equipment.

Skills Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management/Sciences, Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Building Science, etc.), or related OR significant relevant work background
- 5+ years prior experience
- Experience in electrical construction field
- Knowledge of estimating, scheduling, and budget processes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)

- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to apply innovative and effective leadership techniques
