General Summary:The Program Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and delivering large-scale, high-visibility initiatives in a fast-paced environment. This role requires exceptional stakeholder management skills, engaging business partners, IT developers, and change management teams while navigating dependencies, resolving conflicts, and setting clear expectations.
The Program Manager will lead strategic, cross-functional initiatives, often focusing on business process improvement through digital process automation, such as building PEGA applications. These applications are critical for automating tasks, managing workflows, and streamlining processes like underwriting and long-term care claims for Unum US. The role requires someone technically and functionally strong, capable of bridging information gaps with delivery teams and ensuring seamless execution. A proven track record in delivering software solutions, managing multiple concurrent activities (e.g., 6+ initiatives), and adapting classic and Agile project management methodologies is essential.
Job Specifications
- Bachelors degree required, or relevant professional qualification/acceptable industry experience
- Has 5-7+ years of experience with a focus in finance, project management, systems, or IT is preferred
- Demonstrates advanced understanding of and experience with Agile, Scaled Agile and the overall Product Development Lifecycle
- Has excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong team player and able to effectively collaborate across multiple stakeholder groups
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to translate into tangible action plans.
- Able to create a variety of documents, process maps, dashboards, and presentations suitable for technical, business and executive audiences using a variety of tools
- Demonstrates program management, communication, and leadership skills on large, complex initiatives ($1M+)
- Project/program management certifications like PMP, Prince2, CSM, CSPO, CSP and/or CSC are a plus

- Project Planning and Execution: Plans, monitors, and controls project stages, ensuring timely product delivery from team managers, proper project closure, and adherence to budgets.
- Collaboration and Adaptability: A highly collaborative, energetic team player, comfortable navigating ambiguity and working in fast-paced, fluid environments, including both start-up and established organizations.
- Leadership and Professionalism: Acts as a role model for project management, critical thinking, and productivity, emphasizing financial focus and business value metrics.
- Business Benefit Realization: Ensures project success is measured by the performance of its products in the business environment.
- Team Integration and Coordination: Provides leadership and coordination across multiple teams, ensuring alignment and successful execution while managing dependencies.
- Process Improvement: Identifies and drives software process improvement opportunities to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Risk Management: Develops and adapts risk management strategies, monitoring risks as they evolve and updating plans as necessary.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Builds effective working relationships across business and technology teams to align programs with broader goals, resolves conflicts, and facilitates collaborative solutions.
- Communication and Reporting: Provides written and verbal updates for stakeholders at various levels, including executives, tracking progress and outcomes.
- Agile Collaboration: Partners with scrum masters and teams to assess feature delivery progress, addressing program-level impediments as needed.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$109,100.00-$224,000.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
