FLSA Classification:  Non-Exempt, Full-Time
Pay Rate: $23.36/hour

POSITION OVERVIEW

Kids create memories at camp that last a lifetime! As Program Coordinator, you’ll be the guiding hand that makes these unforgettable experiences possible, while helping shape the future of one of Nashville's most popular STEM camp programs.

ASC runs week-long, hands-on STEM camps for ages 6-10 during Metro Nashville Public School’s Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer breaks.  During the Summer, ASC also offers specialty camps geared for older campers that dive deeper into science and technology.  Every camp is designed to inspire curiosity, encourage discovery, and provide a fun, engaging, and safe environment for every child.

In this role, you'll collaborate with our Formal Programs team to create dynamic curriculum, hire and train seasonal camp counselors, and act as camp leader during the camp seasons.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the development and day-to-day operations of camp at Adventure Science Center.  This includes:

  • Collaborating with the Learning Specialists to develop engaging camp themes and hands-on STEM curriculum.
  • Managing the camp budget and purchasing supplies with assistance from the Formal Programs Manager
  • Hiring and supervising seasonal camp counselors alongside the Formal Programs Manager
  • Manage the camp registration process, including creating entries within our ticketing platform, dividing campers into classes, and assigning counselors.
  • Work with the Formal Programs Manager to purchase, organize, and maintain supplies for camp activities
  • Work with the Formal Programs Manager to hire, supervise, and support seasonal camp counselors and volunteers
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents/guardians before, during, and after camp
  • Assist with the development/operation of non-camp events (ex: Badge Day)
  • Assist the Development team by providing required data for grants and scholarship programs 

Requirements

  

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School diploma required
  • Prior experience teaching or organizing a camp highly desired; background in STEM and/or education a plus
  • Prior experience planning large activities or events preferred
  • Ability to manage large groups in a fun, educational environment
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation/facilitation skills
  • Positive attitude required: strong desire to work with and inspire children and adult guests from diverse backgrounds in a fun, learning atmosphere
  • First Aid/CPR/AED (Adult and/or Pediatric) certification preferred 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations. 
  • Typically, walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items (up to 20 pounds unassisted and 50 pounds assisted) are required. At times, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Also, the employee must have manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity. 
  • Some repetitive motion is involved.
