The Product Engineer plays a key role at Xero and within the Product Team. You will collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers to improve and build accounting software, test new features before launch, and identify opportunities to enhance management and reporting tools. Your expertise in software development, data science, or engineering will help shape the functionality and performance of our product offerings.

We are looking to add Product Engineers to our team who are detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to delivering high-quality accounting software.

This role is a full time, in-office position in Johannesburg, South Africa.

What you'll do

  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to improve and build accounting software features.
  • Conduct rigorous testing of new software features before launch, ensuring they function correctly and meet user needs.
  • Analyse data and user feedback to identify opportunities to enhance management and reporting tools.
  • Work closely with the Customer Experience team to understand common customer challenges and develop effective solutions.
  • Implement and refine product development workflows, ensuring efficient and scalable solutions.
  • Utilise data science and engineering principles to improve the accuracy, performance, and usability of our financial software.
  • Ensure all product decisions are data-driven, leveraging analytics and insights to drive enhancements.
  • Support and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the team.

What you'll bring with you

  • A degree in Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Economics, Analytics, other Sciences or a related field.
  • Strong technical skills, with experience in software development, testing, or data analysis.
  • Ability to work with large datasets and extract meaningful insights for product improvements.
  • A proactive mindset and a passion for improving financial technology solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • A keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based platforms, financial software, or data-driven decision-making processes is a plus.
