We are looking for a commercially minded Procurement Lead to lead inbound procurement activities, drive strategic sourcing decisions, and help grow our commodity trading capability in South Africa and the broader SADC region. This is a high-impact leadership role that combines procurement, trading, pricing, and people leadership.
What You'll Do
As Procurement Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient supply of imported products and raw materials while strengthening procurement performance across the business. Key responsibilities include:
- Lead inbound procurement activities for feed additives, young animal feeds, amino acids, and other imported products.
- Manage supplier relationships and negotiate contracts with international suppliers.
- Monitor commodity markets, foreign exchange trends, and trading opportunities to support informed purchasing decisions.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability through strategic sourcing and commodity trading initiatives.
- Work closely with supply chain, demand planning, pricing, manufacturing, sales, and global sourcing teams.
- Drive procurement performance by securing competitive pricing and managing procurement risks.
- Support pricing decisions through market intelligence and cost-price forecasting.
- Lead and develop a small procurement team while providing direction for local procurement activities.
- Ensure accurate procurement planning, inventory management, and supplier performance tracking.
What You Bring
We are looking for a procurement professional who combines strong commercial acumen with leadership capability. You will ideally have:
- At least 5 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, commodity trading, or supply chain management.
- Experience managing international sourcing and supplier negotiations.
- Knowledge of commodity markets, Incoterms, foreign exchange, trading principles, and risk management.
- Experience leading or coaching teams.
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
- The ability to build relationships across functions and geographies.
- Experience with ERP systems (M3 experience is advantageous).
- Experience within animal nutrition, feed, agriculture, food manufacturing, or related industries.
- Exposure to pricing strategy and commodity trading.
