Position: Procurement Category Specialist

Department: Supply Chain

Work Location: Arlington, TN. Position is 100% Onsite

What you will be doing:

The Procurement Category Specialist will be forward-thinking with proven abilities and achievements in a relevant supply chain or finance role.

The Procurement Category Specialist will focus on providing specific category expertise, analyze overall spend across our U.S. and Canada locations, evaluate our supply base and common purchases, deliver standard processes, and develop strategic approaches for implementing and achieving savings and efficiency.

  • Works closely with the Head of Procurement to lead assigned categories across the organization, targeting higher spend reduction opportunities, promoting consistency and efficiency, spend reduction and savings objectives

  • Develops / Implements Procurement strategies and standard processes, such as consolidation of purchasing requests, supplier optimization and supplier development

  • Identify uncontrolled spend, apply supplier and spend comparison methods and influence financial initiatives, such as acquiring discounts, price reductions and mitigate increases

  • Works to standardize pay terms across entire supply base, including situations where a supplier must shift from unfavorable HELE terms to the standard 60 day pay terms

  • Partners with Business Units during budget forecasting to identify key projects and plans accordingly to ensure the projects are carried out timely

  • Efficiently sets yearly goals with Business Units on cost reductions and reports monthly progress of goals and target savings

  • Improves negotiation leverage by pre-contract involvement, advance planning, and the use of technology improvements such as reverse auctioning (competitive bidding) and using industry benchmarking

  • Performs complex cost analysis and estimations; focus on identifying and proposing recommendations for cost savings opportunities and a mutually beneficial relationship

  • Works toward acquisition targets to implement Helen of Troy cost-efficient standard processes

  • Identify standard methodologies and innovations to improve contracting processes, systems, policies, and procedures

  • Coordinate and facilitate procurement related meetings such as kick-off, pre-and post-proposal and award or termination meetings, team briefings, Supplier Performance and Business Reviews

  • Research market sources and suppliers to ensure cost reasonableness and competitive pricing for supplies and services

  • Represents the Procurement department and provides consultation and technical support, information and guidance on procurement and contract administration opportunities

  • Prepares and reviews contracts, bids, proposals, and supplier agreements with the Head of Procurement, Indirect, for price and acceptability of items to specifications

  • Recruits and maintains suppliers that provide high quality products and services at a competitive price while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct

  • Analyzes market to determine future industry wide market price increases that can influence materials purchased for business operations

Skills needed to be successful in this role:

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing to all company levels.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, or large group situations to internal and external customers.

  • Ability to persuade, influence and impact others.

  • Strong financial analysis skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree.

  • 3+ years of directly related procurement experience in large-scale environment.

  • Strong experience in Procuring commodities and services through competitive bidding and direct negotiation processes.

  • Office 365 (Excel, Word, SharePoint) must be highly skilled in Word and Excel.

  • Experience with ERP System.

  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using: Workday, Oracle, or a relatable ERP system.

  • Bachelor’s degree
