Job Summary:
The Principal Technical Product Manager - Common Services is responsible for defining and executing the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of reusable autonomy services and orchestration capabilities that enable scalable autonomous solutions across products and platforms. This role serves as the bridge between customer-facing requirements and foundational technical capabilities, translating functional needs into reusable services that can be leveraged across multiple autonomy products and programs.
The position partners closely with Customer Experience, System Engineering, Data, Platform, Deployment, and Software Engineering teams to define common autonomy capabilities, establish orchestration strategies, and drive technical roadmap execution. The Principal Technical Product Manager ensures reusable services are aligned with customer needs, mission objectives, and platform strategies while maximizing reuse, consistency, scalability, and development efficiency across the autonomy ecosystem.
What You Will Do:
Maximize the value of the product and define work for multiple scrum teams. Collaborate with Product Owners, Customer Experience teams, System Engineering, Data and Analytics Architects, Platform Architects, and Software Engineering teams to own and progressively elaborate functional and non-functional Epics and Features for the Development Teams to deliver. The Product Manager is empowered to drive decisions regarding the Common Services Product Backlog.
- Owns definition of acceptance criteria for common services, orchestration capabilities, and reusable platform features.
- Translate customer-facing requirements, operational workflows, and platform needs into technical requirements for reusable autonomy services.
- Partner with Customer Experience and Common Platform teams to identify common capabilities that can be standardized and leveraged across multiple autonomy products.
- Define and maintain the roadmap for common autonomy services, orchestration capabilities, and platform integration strategies.
- Drive identification, prioritization, and development of reusable services that accelerate capability delivery and reduce duplication across teams.
- Facilitate alignment between customer needs, mission objectives, platform capabilities, and technical implementation approaches.
- Establish service definitions, interface requirements, integration strategies, and capability boundaries that support scalability and maintainability.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration across Robotics, Data, Safety, Platform, Deployment, and Customer Experience teams to ensure service adoption and alignment.
- Identify and manage dependencies across teams to ensure common services effectively support current and future autonomy capabilities.
- Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.
What You Will Have:
Business Analysis: Knowledge of business analysis and the set of tasks, techniques and tools required to identify customer, operational, and business needs; ability to translate functional requirements into scalable technical solutions and reusable services.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze competing priorities, technical dependencies, reuse opportunities, and platform tradeoffs to reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret customer requirements, technical constraints, and platform priorities across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Technical Product Management: Knowledge of product strategy, roadmap development, backlog management, prioritization frameworks, requirements management, and product lifecycle practices; ability to drive delivery of complex technical products and services.
Platform and Service-Oriented Architecture Knowledge: Knowledge of reusable services, platform architectures, orchestration frameworks, APIs, system interfaces, and integration patterns that enable scalable autonomy solutions.
Autonomous Systems Knowledge: Knowledge of autonomous systems, machine operations, robotics, data flows, safety considerations, and mission execution; ability to understand how common services support end-to-end autonomy capabilities.
Cross-Functional Leadership: Knowledge of stakeholder management, organizational alignment, and cross-functional execution; ability to drive collaboration across customer experience, robotics, platform, data, safety, deployment, and engineering organizations.
Consideration For Top Candidates:
- Lead common services and platform capability programs from strategy development through roadmap execution and organizational adoption.
- At least 8 years of experience in Product Management, Technical Product Management, Systems Engineering, Platform Engineering, Software Architecture, or related technical leadership roles.
- Demonstrated experience translating customer requirements and business needs into scalable technical capabilities, reusable services, and platform roadmaps.
- Experience defining and managing service-oriented architectures, platform capabilities, orchestration frameworks, or shared technology ecosystems.
- Experience driving cross-functional alignment across customer-facing, engineering, platform, data, safety, and operations organizations.
- Cat domain knowledge and experience supporting autonomous systems, connected products, advanced technology programs, or enterprise-scale platform solutions preferred.
Additional Details:
- This position requires the candidate to work full-time at the Irving, TX office (Dallas)

Summary Pay Range:
$147,760.00 - $240,110.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
