The Principal Software Engineer - Mobile Apps will influence a wide variety of business and technology decisions. This role will design, implement, and deliver cross-functional solutions for highly complex problems. This role will provide technical direction for an organization and set up an excellent engineering culture.
Where You'll Be
Associates are required to relocate to the Lowe's Tech Hub Charlotte NC to foster collaboration and support. The ideal candidate must be willing to work in the office at our Charlotte Tech Hub, office location, 5 days per week. Most business meetings are planned around the Eastern time zone.

What You Will Do
1. Mobile Architecture & Technical Strategy
- Define and execute mobile technology strategy aligned with retail business objectives and senior leadership priorities.
- Own end-to-end solution architecture across mobile and backend systems, balancing stability, scalability, security, and cost.
- Simplify complex technical challenges into scalable solutions that evolve with business needs.
2. Mobile Engineering & Development
- Provide technical leadership across Android, iOS, and cross-platform mobile development.
- Architect shared business logic using Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) and dynamic experiences using Server-Driven UI (SDUI).
- Drive native development using Android (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose) and iOS (Swift, UIKit, SwiftUI).
3. Backend Integration & Quality
- Integrate mobile applications with Spring Boot, Java 21, REST APIs, microservices, and core services including SearchNav, ProductGateway, and TypeAhead.
- Drive high-quality design, automated unit and integration testing using JUnit 5, XCTest, MockK, Espresso, and XCUITest.
- Champion modern software engineering methodologies and secure development practices, including SAST and DAST.
4. Mobile Delivery, Performance & Reliability
- Drive mobile delivery using Fastlane, TestFlight, Firebase App Distribution, and automated deployment pipelines.
- Monitor performance using GCP Cloud Monitoring, Prometheus, and distributed tracing across mobile-to-backend journeys.
- Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex production issues and critical outages.
5. Technical Leadership & Collaboration
- Proactively identify customer, engineering, and business challenges and drive clarity, convergence, and closure.
- Partner with product owners, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure successful deployment and adoption of mobile solutions.
- Evaluate technical tradeoffs and drive engineering decisions that deliver scalable, reliable, and high-performing mobile experiences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer information systems (CIS), or related field or equivalent years of experience in lieu of education requirement, if applicable
- 10 years of experience in software development or related field
- 8 years of experience in any of the following: software engineering competencies frontend technologies (UI/UX), middleware (microservices and APIs), database technologies, DevOps
- 8 years of experience working on project(s) involving the implementation of solutions applying development life cycles (SDLC)
Preferred Skills/Education
- Master's degree in computer science, CIS, or related field
- Proven track record of executing a major technology renovation or modernization strategy (preferably containing SDUI, KMP, and GraphQL BFF elements).
- Expert knowledge of microservices, server-side design patterns, and high-performance, multi-layered JVM in-memory caching.
- Practical, hands-on experience using GenAI APIs, LLM prompt engineering, and code-generation tools/agents to accelerate development.
