As a Principal Software Engineer for Map Rendering in China, you will:
- Take a leading technical role in designing and evolving the core rendering engine that powers HERE SDK’s map visualization across platforms.
- Work on performance-critical systems involving real-time 2D/3D rendering, GPU-accelerated graphics pipelines, and cross-platform abstraction layers.
- Collaborate closely with product, platform, and research teams to define and implement scalable rendering solutions used across the company.
- Lead by example technically, mentor other team members, guide architectural decisions, and help shape long-term strategy for HERE rendering stack.
- On demand on-site support to resolve complex customer issues.
You are a strong fit for this role if you possess the following qualifications, skills, competencies and work experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar technical degree
- 12+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 8 years of modern C++ development (C++17 or newer)
- Experience with mobile platforms (iOS Swift, Android Kotlin/Java, or cross-platform frameworks such as Flutter)
- Strong expertise in real-time 3D graphics programming (Vulkan, Metal, or OpenGL ES)
- Deep understanding of rendering pipelines, GPU architecture, and performance optimization techniques
- Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and computational geometry
- Experience with multithreaded and performance-critical systems
- Extensive experience with the Standard Template Library (STL), Boost, large-scale C++ code bases, modern build systems such as CMake and Gradle.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented and component-based software design.
- Exposure to Automotive related software is a plus, though not mandatory
- Fluent communication skills in English and Mandarin

HERE SDK, one of the products we are managing, provides a set of programming interfaces that enables developers to build immersive native applications while leveraging our powerful maps and location services.With features such as interactive 2D and 3D vector maps, routing visualization, guidance, search, and real-time location rendering, the HERE SDK enables developers to build advanced native location-based applications for platforms such as Android, iOS, and Linux. Our product is used by millions of users in mobile phones, in-vehicle systems, and embedded devices.To deliver a world-class mapping and visualization experience, we are expanding our engineering team and looking for a highly experienced C++ and graphics expert to drive the evolution of our map rendering architecture.
Skills Required
