Are you passionate about building products that support K–12 independent schools and higher education institutions? The Education Management team is growing its global product management organization and is looking for a Principal Product Manager to own key product capabilities and help translate complex customer needs into high‑impact solutions.
As a Principal Product Manager on our Education Management team, you’ll help build products that support schools in educating and developing the next generation of students.
Location & Time Zone Collaboration
This role is based in Blackbaud’s India office and works closely with a primarily US‑based customer and stakeholder group. You will report to a US‑based product leader and collaborate with a globally distributed engineering and product team. The role requires regular overlap with US working hours (typically several hours per business day) for live collaboration and customer conversations.
As part of the Education Management team, you will be responsible for:
Developing deep customer understanding by identifying unmet needs, gaps, and limitations in current solutions, and helping determine the right internal or external approaches to address them.
Defining and driving the product roadmap for owned products and capabilities, including prioritization and planning across integrations and dependencies.
Partnering closely with Engineering and Design to translate product strategy into clear, actionable requirements that enable effective delivery.
Driving adoption and usage of new features and toolsets, working with Customer Success to ensure delivered solutions create real customer value.
Identifying opportunities to strengthen customer engagement, including improvements that support retention and long‑term outcomes.
Aligning execution to broader product and business strategy, and communicating progress, risks, and decisions clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
Collaborating with other Product Managers to ensure consistency, shared learning, and alignment across the education product ecosystem.
How to tell if you are the right fit:
Think strategically about customer problems and enjoy translating complex needs into clear product direction.
Take ownership, earn trust across teams, and work effectively in cross‑functional environments.
Are comfortable operating in ambiguity and bringing clarity, focus, and momentum to evolving problem spaces.
Influence decisions through data, customer insight, and collaboration.
You’re energized by using AI to improve efficiency, decision‑making, and product outcomes.
Care deeply about building products that have a meaningful impact on the missions of schools and the communities they serve.
Candidate Requirements:
8+ years of product management experience delivering customer‑facing software from discovery through delivery.
Strong experience engaging directly with customers and users and translating needs into product decisions.
Proven ability to own complex product areas, manage priorities and dependencies, and make sound tradeoffs.
AI‑first mindset: You use AI to improve the speed and quality of your work, and you help deliver AI‑powered, customer‑facing capabilities as part of the product roadmap.
Experience working cross‑functionally with Engineering, Design, and customer‑facing teams.
Comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving clarity across multiple work streams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including communicating complex decisions to global, US‑based stakeholders and customers.
Experience working in agile development environments (Scrum or similar).
Experience using data and experimentation (e.g., test‑and‑learn, A/B testing) to inform decisions.
Ability to ramp up quickly in new domains.
Growth‑oriented, motivated by ownership and high expectations.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):
Experience building products for education institutions.
Experience using product analytics and user behavior tools to understand usage patterns and inform product decisions (e.g., Heap, Amplitude, Mixpanel).
Familiarity with enterprise frameworks (e.g., SAFe, Pragmatic) applied pragmatically.
Experience with tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Salesforce, or analytics/databases.
Experience building or managing integrations or platform capabilities across systems.
