Job Description:
About the Role:
As a Principal Hardware Application Engineer within the Data Center Solutions (DCS) Business Unit, you will be instrumental in supporting Field Application Engineers (FAEs), sales teams, and customers across all stages of the product lifecycle—including product introduction, technical inquiries, design, bring-up, testing, and post-production—of data center hardware solutions. In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and OEM/ODM customers to ensure the successful integration and deployment of products in advanced data center, machine learning/AI, and storage environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support, manage, and maintain hardware for processor-based PCIe connection and storage integrated circuits and reference designs.
- Collaborate with FAEs, sales, and customer engineering teams to define requirements, manage deliverables, and assist with new product design wins.
- Provide design review services and hands-on support for initial system bring-up, board-level debug, and transition to full production.
- Understand customer architecture and hardware designs to deliver timely technical support for post-production products.
- Root cause customer issues independently or by leading cross-functional teams.
- Develop and review customer-facing documentation, including user guides, release notes, technical product training, reference designs, and application notes.
- Drive customer requirements through the project management process.
- Travel domestically and internationally as needed to support customer sites and debug systems involving hardware, software, and firmware.
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a team, across multiple geographical locations.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in hardware engineering or a related field.
- Possess strong technical skills and knowledge in system and hardware development, as well as debugging.
- Experience with board-level and system-level debug & bring-up, high-speed signal integrity, and board design.
- Demonstrated experience with laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers/exercisers, logic analyzers, and other test instruments related to storage or networking.
- Ability to effectively work with cross-functional teams and across multiple geographical locations.
- Technical leadership, teamwork, communication, and presentation skills.
- Project management experience.
- Experience in the international standard compliance and tradeshow events.
- Functional spoken/written English.
Desired Qualifications
- Expertise in PCIe, CXL and SAS Hardware design.
- Familiarity with storage networking concepts and protocols (SCSI, SAS, SATA, iSCSI, PCI, PCI-Express, Ethernet).
- Experience with storage architecture and hardware.
- Working experience with Tier-1 customers.
- Experience with RISC-based embedded processors (MIPS preferred).
- Experience working with Marketing, FAE and Sales teams.
- Hardware and/or chip development/debug skills.
- Fundamental understanding of RAID.
- Experience working with Marketing and Sales teams.
- Experience in the Storage and Server Industry.
- Experience in product promotion.
